One of the volunteer companies recently s t C fmp Alger poaseaaes a beautiful new flag, which waa made and presented by a number of patriotic women in the Pennayl-vsnia town from which the company comes. I t waa presented just before the company marched away—or steamed away, to be so-curate—and the presentation v u ibeocc•-sion of much ceremony. The company was drawn up in a long line—"company f ron t , " 1 believe, is the military term lor it—and a very charming young lady read a very charming and somewhat lengthy sddrcaa, which contained a great deal of flowery lan-guage. The captain was " i t " then, snd had to reply. _ H e is not an eloquent man at any tune,.and he is extremely shy; btlt he had written out a gricctul speech df • accept-ance, and h a a l e p p e d forward confidently and rece tved iMbanner .
