Ancestor Worship(Shang Dynasty ~1500 BC
Ancestor worship (拜祖 ), also ancestor veneration (敬祖 ), is
a religious practice based on the belief that one's ancestors possess supernatural powers.
All cultures attach ritual significance to the passing of
loved ones, but this is not equivalent to ancestor
worship.
What does Confucianism say about family?
• Father was head of the family– must be of the highest morals
• Children must respect the father• All family members should be loyal to one
another• Deceased family members were still
worshiped and respected
What does Confucianism say about Government?
• All leaders must be moral• King should lead by example• low class would learn by example of the
