“God’s Family and My Part in It” is the topic for our session on Wednesday, November 15.
Would you like to learn more about your part in God’s family? Please join our discussion, led by

All are welcome!
New this school year in our Pastoral Region PREP is an opportunity for parents to increase their knowledge of the Catholic faith at the same time their children are learning. Parents attend a class just for them while their children are in their PREP classes. This enables the parents to reinforce at home what their children learn in class.
Anyone, trying to raise a Catholic family or simply wants to know more about the teaching of the Church, is
highly encouraged to attend these classes on Monday evenings.
Parents, it's your responsibility to teach the faith to your kids. Let us help you be your children's first and best teacher.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19 6:30 PM IN THE OLSH MARIAN ROOM.
Attendance is mandatory. Contact Beth Pettigrew for more
information at 554-1010 or
Sts. Peter & Paul Church has a Holy Hour from
6:00-7:00pm this Wednesday.
This month’s Holy Hour will be dedicated to those who are suffering.
From 7:00-7:45PM, prayers are being recited by parishioners.
At 7:45pm, we close Adoration with Benediction. While you are spending the time with God, our
Creator and Redeemer, you can let your soul rest in the wonder of His loving presence. You can sit
quietly and listen, too, because God wants to speak to your heart. Please join us.
ASK FR. MATT
Dear Father,
During Mass, I always see and faintly hear you (the priest) praying a prayer the rest of us do not say. What are you saying and why? The priest at Mass has several prayers that are spoken quietly. They are as follows: Prior to the Gospel: If a Deacon is proclaiming the Gospel, the Priest blesses the Deacon with these words:
“May the Lord be in your heart and on your lips that you may proclaim his Gospel worthily and well, in the name of the Father and of Son and the Holy Spirit.” OR:
If the Priest proclaims the Gospel- the priest bows to the Altar and says the following: “Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Gospel.”
After the Gospel Proclamation: The deacon or priest says the following, while kissing the book: “Through the words of the Gospel, may our sins be wiped away.” Preparation of the Gifts: When pouring a small amount of water into the wine in the main chalice, the following is said:
“By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity.”
After presenting the Chalice: The priest bows and says: “With humble spirit and contrite heart may we be accepted by you, O Lord, and may our sacrifice in your sight be pleasing to you, Lord God.” While the Priest is washing his hands:“Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” The Sanctus (Holy, Holy): During the Sanctus, the Consecrated Host is broken into two. A small piece is placed in the Chalice while the following is said:
“May this mingling of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ bring eternal life to us who receive it.”
Then bowing with hands joined, the priest says one of the following: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, who by the will of the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit, through your death gave life to the world; free me by this your most holy body and blood from all my sins and from every evil; keep me always faithful to your commandments, and never let me be parted from you.”
Or “May the receiving of your Body and Blood, Lord Jesus Christ, not bring me to judgement and condemnation, but through your loving mercy, be for me protection in mind and body, and a healing remedy.” Purification of the Sacred Vessels: When purifying the Sacred Vessels after the distribution of Holy Communion, the priest, deacon, or acolyte says the following:
“What has passed our lips as food, O Lord, may we possess in purity of heart, that what has been given to us in time, may be our healing for eternity.”
*** Note that most of these prayers follow the general theme of asking forgiveness and for the worthiness of receiving the graces of this most wonderful Sacrament .
If there is a question that you would like answered, there are three ways to submit questions. Email to [email protected]—Call the parish office with your question, or drop your question in the collection basket in an envelope marked “Ask Father.” *Please provide a means of contact so that I can answer you directly or clarify your question. I want to answer your questions promptly, even if it takes several weeks or even months to make the bulletin.

PARISH LIFE & OUTREACH
Did You Know? The Knights of Columbus spearheaded a
campaign that led to last year’s March 17 genocide declaration by the State Department. As part of the effort, the organization and its partners prepared a nearly 300-page report on the genocide being carried out against Christians by ISIS and other extremist groups. The State Department’s declaration was only the second instance in which the U.S. government declared an ongoing situation to be genocide. Supreme Knight Carl Anderson has said 2017 may be "the decisive year in determining whether many Christian communities throughout the Middle East will continue to exist,” and has called for aid from the U.S. government and the international community. He has also urged prayer for “those who are being persecuted and killed for their faith,” The K of C has raised more than $12 million for Christian refugee relief since 2014. Much more is needed. Credit Card Donations to support Christian refugees can be made at www.christiansatrisk.org. . Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) Working on the Margins
Please Give Generously on Collection Week: November 18-19, 2017 (World Day of the Poor) On November 19, Pope Francis is instituting a World Day of the Poor, the same weekend as our annu-al collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), the national, anti-poverty campaign of the U.S. bishops. CCHD has been an immeasurable blessing for thousands in our Archdi-ocese over the years. Just this past year, the agencies funded by CCHD have empowered nearly 2,000 low-income people to break the cycle of poverty through such feats as finding jobs, responsibly reen-tering society after prison, educating youth, and securing decent housing and public services for their communities. Archbishop Dennis Schnurr appeals to the faithful this year: “Through our contribu-tions to CCHD on the World Day of the Poor, and our engagement with the poor all year round, may we more fully understand the deepest truths of the Gospel.” Please prayerfully and generously con-sider how you will give on Collection Weekend, Nov. 18-19. Your dollars are making real change! Visit www.usccb.org/cchd to learn more. Also check out the Archdiocesan CCHD website for more
local information: www.catholiccincinnati.org/socialaction.
