An outstanding piece of architecture
designed by renowned Chinese-American
architect IM Pei, the Museum of Islamic
Art is the jewel of Doha. It is home to a
magnicient Islamic art collection from
the 7th to the 19th century including
manuscripts, ceramics, metals, glass, textiles,
woods and stones from around the world.
The museum also hosts various temporary
exhibitions throughout the year.

1 The museum galleries are located on
level 2 and 3 which are accessible via stairs
or lifts. Level 2 galleries are divided by
themes designed to introduce visitors to
the language of Islamic art. Level 3 galleries
focus on the journey of Islamic Art
through dierent periods starting from the7th to the 18th century.
2 Exhibits to look for include the silk wall-
hanging from the Al-Hambra Palace, a jade
pendant belonging to Shah Jahan, the 10th
century bronze Andalusian fountainhead in
the form of a doe with a heart-shaped mouth
and an ornate spherical brass plate from
Mesopotamia used to measure the position
of the stars.

in his mission to build a collection that would

It is surrounded by a collection of smaller
souqs which specializes in dierent typesof goods; Gold Souk, Souk Al Ahmed, Souk

2 Souq Waqif is also surrounded by the last
few standing old architecture of old Doha,

uniform who will patrol the souq on horses
that are in full traditional livery. Visitors can
take this opportunity to take pictures with
