4-H Newsletter
A Stephens County Teen Leader is a 4-H’er between the ages of 13 and 19 that is interested in mentoring younger 4-H’ers. Teen leaders are selected to serve in many different roles. They serve as workshop instructors, day camp counselors, county camp counselors, district and state workshop instructors, and various other leadership rolls.
The next Teen Leader Meeting will be May 23, 2019, 6pm at the Stephens County Extension Office
Summer Camp, day camp workshops, and other summer activities will be discussed.
If you enjoy working with youth, then 4-H has a place for you…
Stephens County 4-H needs moms, dads and grandparents as volunteers to assist with summer activities! Together we can do more to inspire our youth to grow and achieve success. Summer camp, day camps and leadership/citizenship activities all have vital volunteer roles.
4-H has been around for more than 100 years, and today the organization is made of traditional and new program areas. A 4-H volunteer motivates youth to discover their own paths within the organization. Volunteering with 4-H offers more than just working with youth. Volunteers have many opportunities to learn new skills and network with other volunteers.
Make plans to attend Volunteer Enrollment and Training, May 14, 2019, at 5:30 PM, at the Stephens County OSU Extension Office. Call for information and to RSVP, 255-0510.
At this years 4-H State Roundup 4-H members will have the opportunity to live on
campus, explore campus life, and network with youth from across the state. Dele-
gates also participate in workshops related to career/personal interest, competitive
events, fun activities, and nightly dances! The cost for roundup is $175.00. Regis-
tration forms are available on our website, http://oces.okstate.edu/stephens/4-h, or
at the Stephens County Extension Office. Roundup Orientation will be held after
the Teen Leader Meeting on June 27. Discounts may be available to youth who
participate in a contest at roundup or help with 4-H concession at the SW District
Horse Show that will be held May 30th—June 1st.

Extension Office. (Must have been a Teen Leader for one year.)
Teen Leaders have a fundraising opportunity by having a concession at the District Horse Show on May 29, 30, and 31
st. We have done this for many years. Each youth who works the concession
receives $50 toward their Round Up registration.
However; we do not have a 4-H Educator at this time to supervise this event. We are urgently seeking an adult volunteer, or maybe more than one volunteer, who is willing to conduct/supervise this activity. Duties include youth supervision and safety and management of the inventory and financial aspects of the fundraiser. Please consider volunteering or recruiting others to volunteer. If we do not have anyone volunteer by May 14, 2019 we will have to let another group do the concession.
Please call or email Brenda Gandy-Jones, Stephens County Extension Director at 580-255-0510 or email [email protected] to volunteer. Thanks in advance for helping our youth achieve more!
