VILLAGE INFORMATION
Village LadiesHi everyone, hope you are all well. As you can imagine there is not much news to report this month. This would have been the month of our AGM, a meeting everyone enjoys to look back over the past 12 months and although not much to report on Village Ladies during that period I expect lots of us could write about how the present situation has affected all our lives.
I am hoping you are all enjoying the fortnightly newsletters and Andrea is keeping the web site up to date with anything we feel is important so please keep looking.
There will be details sent out to you soon about the way forward but I am hopeful that things will have improved so much that we start to think about maybe meeting again in September. Until then please contact me or your committee member in your group if anyone needs anything, even a chat can cheer up a dismal day.
Stay safe and hope to see you all soon.

VILLAGE INFORMATION
Our gardens are in full flower from efforts made in the Spring. They have been a great consolation during the long months of lockdown. Social distancing still gets in the way of many things that we used to take for granted, but the dedicated gardener has a lot to do as summer approaches. Dead-heading and pruning call for constant attention, along with harvesting, mowing, watering and general maintenance.
The Club is ticking over in the background - it will be some time before it returns to a “normal” programme of activities. The Committee will meet when it needs to and finding a new chair to succeed Sue Stevens (now living in Wales) will be on its agenda.
It is with sadness that the Club reports the death of Judy Berrow, who was a prime mover in organising our programme of speakers and outings for some 25 years. She was also, for many years, Worcestershire county organiser for the National Garden Scheme, under which some 57 of the county’s private gardens are open for public viewing on selected dates. Roses were Judy’s favourite flower and will remind us of her.

HAGLEY U3A U3A (University of the Third Age) is a National Organisation with local groups of retired or semi-retired people who meet to continue educational, social and creative interests in a friendly and informal environment.
Hagley U3A normally meets in the afternoon of the 1st Wednesday of the month (except August) at St Saviour’s church hall. Doors open about 1.15 and the meeting starts at 1.45. We usually have a speaker for an hour and then time for tea and a chat.
There are also around 30 special interest groups. The groups are of varying number and meet at different venues including the Free Church hall and group leaders’ own homes. Please see our website for a full list www.u3a.org.uk/hagley.
Although we’re unable to meet at the moment, do think about joining us – for more details contact our Membership Secretary Ian Powick : email [email protected], phone 01562 883822.

Now that some restrictions are being eased, we are thrilled to be able to form our Bubbles and be close to family or friends. With the lovely weather we had already been taking advantage of socially distanced get togethers, within Government-permitted numbers, each person
bringing their own drink and cake.
Those of us fortunate enough to have gardens have been sowing, planting, tying in, tidying up and appreciating the colours and abundance of the blossom and the wildlife. Now the gardens are appreciating the serious rain that they really need.
We have been keeping in contact with frequent phone calls, emails and a monthly Newsletter sent by email or by post. We are also having social Zoom meetings, with a quiz and sharing our news. Being able to enjoy nature and the outdoors has been hugely important, whether that has been our own ‘patch’ or daily walks discovering new paths and getting to know our village better.
We’re continuing with crafts and to keep our minds active, the County has organised on-line events including talks on Violette Szabo, Bletchley Park, the Marine Conservation Society and the Ghosts of Hampton Court. They also email or mail an interesting full colour monthly Newsletter.
Denman, the WI college, has been streaming a wide variety of ‘courses’ - cookery demonstrations, learning new crafts, sing-a-long sessions, exercise classes, guided virtual tours of Bloomsbury and the City of London and a seminar on the First World War.
You can look us up on Facebook – and, if you’re wondering what to do when restrictions are lifted, how about giving the WI a try?
We are really looking forward to when we can again meet face to face and making that something very special to celebrate.
Meanwhile - we hope everyone is keeping safe and sane and not getting bored

VILLAGE INFORMATION
Having suspended our Monday Evening meetings In April, Rotarians set their minds to defrosting the freezer or decrumming the toaster during their COVID 19 lockdown.
Sheds were being built, gardens were being refined and the need for social activity seemed a distant ambition put on the back burner until the autumn.
But the need for good company and worthy discussion overtook us and although most Rotarians Computers have screens covered in TipEx, Past President Julie Banks set up a virtual reality Rotary Meeting by Zoom whilst we waited to ReZoom our weekly meetings at the Lyttleton Arms.
Our first meeting resembled a Whitehall Farce with Rotarians suddenly appearing on screen only to disappear 5 seconds later, and despite Julie’s good stewardship, we seemed to Zoom in and Zoom out at incredible speed, shouting “Where are You” and “Where am I” in the hope that one of the Rotarians would stay on screen long enough for the Master at Arms to fine somebody for interrupting.
Sufficient to say a good time was had by all and the following meetings held on the 11th and 25th May made up for the loss of our customary good humor and Rotary camaraderie.
We look forward to Zooming the Airwaves in July and hopefully it won’t be long before we’ll meet again so if readers would like to have fun with a purpose, consider joining our club who will be meeting at 7.00 pm for 7.30 pm on Monday evenings by visiting our website at

Local care company Home Instead is rated “Outstanding”Local company Home Instead Senior Care (Stourbridge, Hagley and Halesowen) have shown following a recent inspection from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that they are setting a new benchmark for high quality care. With a rating scale similar to schools, Home Instead have been rated overall “Outstanding” which has been given to only 3% of home care providers nationally.
Established in 2012 with an office in Hagley, Home Instead say they offer a different sort of service which is tailored to each individual person rather than the usual focus on fast visits and high volumes. Whilst Home Instead can offer personal care and specialises in dementia care, many clients just want some help around the house and with the same CAREGivers visiting each week, they seem more like part of the family who can visit simply for good company, to reignite old hobbies or to get out and about in the local area.
The inspection report explains “People received outstanding care. Without exception, people were extremely complimentary about the caring attitude of all the caregivers who supported them.” One person said, “The carers are all very good and I cannot fault any of them. All wonderful to be honest, so caring and kind.” Another person said, “I can’t speak highly enough about any of them. They will do anything for me and are so nice and caring in the way they do things.”
For more about Home Instead Senior Care, visit www.homeinstead.co.uk/stourbridge or phone 01562 885589.

Hagley Parish Council UpdateSince last month’s update we have now completed the due diligence process and have been able to satisfy both ourselves and the Football Foundation as regards conditions associated with the £150,000 additional grant towards the Pavilion.
In addition we have had unequivocal reassurance from STW CEO and Executive Team that the utility will continue to abide by its commitment to return the playing fields back to its pre-excavation condition. Both projects are now able to re-commence with appointments of the associated contractors.
As the world continues to unfold discussions have recommenced so that the Community Dial-A-Ride bus can start again when safe. The lockdown months have clearly shown how important it is to be active and to able to move freely and safely. Re-starting the community bus will support community engagement and reduce the feeling of being isolated.
At the time of writing the main Libraries in Worcestershire are now opening for a limited service whilst smaller libraries such as Hagley remain closed for the foreseeable future.
The impact of the government announcing more measures to relax its rules and the opening of more businesses, services and community amenities will no doubt have been greeted with cautious optimism. If I can make one plea that would be to continue to take as many steps as possible to ensure that the infection doesn’t return.
On behalf of everyone at HPC we ask that you continue to stay safe and well.
Cllr Steve Colella Chairman Hagley Parish Council
Hagley Neighbourhood Watch It is very pleasing to report the digital upgrade of the CCTV surveillance system in Hagley.
This follows a Bromsgrove District Council Task and Finish group which I chaired along with fellow District Councillor Dr Michael Thompson which identified that the legacy system was out of date and no longer fit for purpose.
The new Digital cameras and infrastructure will give greater flexibility, enhance images and give a greater storage capacity. The upgrade is supported by significant investments by Bromsgrove District Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner. Further enhancements will be deployment of transferable CCTV cameras which will be used to identify fly tippers and where there are reports of ASB or vandalism.
The upgrade will give the Police greater support in tackling crime and is a welcomed by Hagley Neighbourhood Watch.
The main reports over the last few months have been breaches of the social distancing guidance; no doubt as the world reawakens so will those less envious aspects of the world.
Please get back into the routine of removing valuables from vehicles, keeping valuables locked and out of site and letting friends and neighbours know if you’re away for any length of time.
There has been a definite drop in crime since March, unfortunately as much as we’d love this to be the new norm we probably know that it won’t.
Take care and be safe.
Joint co-ordinators Steve Colella and Roger Seabury.

VILLAGE INFORMATION
Hagley Parish Council UpdateBDC has been mostly operating at a reduced service over the last few months with only the most essential services operating. Staff have been working largely from home and working tirelessly to ensure the council remains open as far as possible. Our sincere thanks to everyone at the council for their commitment and dedication and for not only supporting the front line services but in many cases being the front line essential services themselves.
Businesses across the district have been able to benefit from government business grants administered by the council which in very many cases has meant the difference between closure and being able to ensure that when the world returns to a more recognised norm it will be able to re-open.
Services are returning slowly in line with government guidance and will continue throughout the summer.
There hasn’t been a Bromsgrove Full Council meeting since February which we are very concerned with and are actively pressing for a virtual council meeting to be held in Bromsgrove before the end of July.
Some readers may be aware that the Artrix in Bromsgrove has recently gone into Liquidation, closing its doors permanently just after the lockdown began. There have been urgent activities over recent months to find a new owner and operator. These discussions are quite well advanced now and we wait to see what has been salvaged from what was a very popular venue and a very important part of Bromsgrove’s culture and heritage.
Stay safe and well
Bromsgrove District Councillors Steve Colella (Hagley West) and Rachel Jenkins (Hagley East)
Well what a strange time we have all being experiencing over the last few months!
Like most other ‘normal’ activities all our classes closed mid March and at the time of writing this we have no clear indication
when will be able to restart them. This week saw the go ahead for certain restrictions to be eased or lifted but at the moment group activities involving exercise indoors is not allowed. Our insurance company and regulatory bodies have confirmed that only small groups of people exercising outdoor whilst socially distancing is permitted so for the time being at least our face to face classes remain closed. We do have some online classes running for existing clients (if you have exercised with us before and have a device on which to watch a class please let us know if you are interested).
We will continue to watch for changes to the guidelines as these are announced and will of course announce class re-opening dates on our face book page as soon as we can.
Keep safe and well
