REFUSED In Dec 2011, Bournemouth Council

brought into effect a new planning requirement to protect the residen�al amenity of your area. This means that landlords now need planning permission to change a family residen�al home into a House of Mul�ple Occupancy (HMO), which is o(en used for student le)ng.

The first cases affected by this “Ar�cle

4” direc�on were discussed in April’s planning board mee�ng: • 26 Sedgley Road. • 101 Ensbury Park Road.

Thanks to representa�ons at the

planning board by Councillor Theo Stra7on and local residents the planning board was persuaded to made its first refusals under this new rule. The applica�ons for both 26 Sedgley Road and 101 Ensbury Park Road were turned down to the great sa�sfac�on of local residents. 26 Sedgley Road

On 21st May, Councillor Theo Stratton will be supporting local residents in their objection to a development in Fitzharris Avenue, and is currently organising a petition against another HMO proposal at 8 Hankinson Road. If you want to offer your support contact Theo (see opposite).

LATE NIGHT NOISE SERVICE IMPROVING A reminder: if you suffer late night noise from nearby parties, help is at hand.

The council operates a night time noise line on 0800 0281870. This usually operates on a Friday and Saturday evening between the hours of 10:00pm and 02:00am.

Due to the popularity of this service, the council is currently recruiting 2 more

environmental health officers to extend this service to other nights of the week (to be decided).

The University supports this initiative, and takes robust action against students who refuse to comply. To date they have fined several students for anti-social parties.
