Gate of Heaven Parking Lot Update - Sept. 1st As you know, over the past couple of years, we have been raising funds for the
completion of the parking lot at Gate of Heaven Church. The 2019 Grand Annual Collection and also our Capital Campaign, that we began in 2018, we raised enough funds to complete the
excavation, drainage work, and paving. The Archdiocese approved this work in late February, just before the pandemic lockdown. The
drainage system is complete and curbing is in place. The next steps: 1. PPaving of the first coat: The binder course will take place within the next few weeks. We will not be able to utilize the parking area immediately. If blocked off, please do not drive on the new pavement. 2. Top (smooth) coat: The pavement will be installed and the lining of the lot will take place. 3. Paver installation: The pavers are installed along the walkway, and will be installed at the side of the Church, and in the new garden and statue areas. This will take a few weeks to complete. 4. Plantings: The landscape will include bushes, trees, and grass all of which will be installed in late-September. If anyone has a green thumb and would like to help plant, we would appreciate your help. Watch the bulletin for details! 5. Fencing: The fencing will be installed in the Fall. Hopefully our 2020 Grand Annual Collection will cov-er some of the cost to continue the wrought iron fence along East 4th and East 5th Streets.
We are happy the project will soon be completed. Thank you to all who helped fund this project. Know that it is greatly appreciated! It is going to look beautiful!
Confirmation Ceremony - 9th grade Thursday, October 1, 2020
Due to the restrictions in place the Confirmation Ceremony will be by invitation only. Only the
candidate for the sacrament, their sponsor and their parents/guardians will be able to attend the
ceremony. More information will be forthcoming via email to those who have completed the 7th and
8th grade classes.
First Communion (Rescheduled from last Spring - 2020)
Parents will have a choice to have their child receive First Communion this year, or in May of 2021. You may choose SSaturday, September 19th at 10AM or
wait until the current 2nd grade class receive on the First Saturday, May 1, 2021. Please know that all
requirements for safe worship will be in place for the September 19th Mass. Also, there will be a limited num-ber of congregants allowed per family. A total of only 5
persons plus the First Communicant will be allowed.
Needed - Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Adult Servers The Parish is in need of Lectors
and Eucharistic Ministers. Due to Covid-19, many of the more senior minsters have not been able to serve. If you are
able, healthy and willing - we will train you! The need is great for Lectors to assist the priest in
proclaiming the Word of God. Also - EEucharistic Ministers are needed for all
Mass times. For all ministries - you may
choose the Mass you assist at when scheduled. We are flexi-
ble with schedules.
Adult Altar Servers - Help needed to Assist at Funerals for our Deceased Loved Ones
Our parishes of Gate of Heaven and St. Brigid are currently in significant need of parishioners of any age who would be willing to help serve Fu-neral Masses. Please consider helping the parish
and the families of the deceased with this our most important work of mercy. If you are inter-ested in assisting with any of these ministries or have questions, pplease contact the Parish Main
Office at 617.268.3344. Thank you!

School News The children at South Boston Catholic Academy returned to school last week. They were thrilled to be back and they enjoyed their newly renovated school yard. It has a new greenspace of artificial turf, a basketball court, a space for a future out-door classroom, picnic tables etc. School during the pandemic looks very different for our students as they wear masks the entire school day, are constantly washing hands, using the provided hand sanitizers many
times a day, and eating lunch in the classrooms, but they are all enthusi-astic about returning to school! The new play area has been beneficial so that they can enjoy the outdoors more often -- for “mask breaks,” recess, and even holding class outdoors. Please pray for our school and our children, that they remain healthy and safe as the school year pro-gresses. Pray for our teachers, principal, and staff as they provide, in challenging times, a quality Catholic Education to our parish children!

Our priests are often at the center of efforts that build
strong support systems for all of us. In addition to
their daily pastoral responsibilities, they help establish
social service organizations, offer spiritual support for first
responders, operate parish food pantries, and recently, in
response to the pandemic, put their lives at risk to provide
comfort and peace to those suffering with COVID-19.
Healthier priests build stronger communities. And the
Clergy Health and Retirement Trust (CHRT) is dedicated to
keeping our priests healthy.
This September, you can support the CHRT’s mission
by giving to the special collection at Masses on
September 19/20. Every gift makes a difference and is
a symbol of gratitude for all our priests who don’t just
observe need in our communities; they seek it out so
they can respond.
