Northern Illinois University Art Museum, in collaboration with
the Center for Burma Studies presents the exhibition series,
“Kaleidoscope of Burmese Art: Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of
the Center for Burma Studies.” This multiple exhibition series across
the NIU campus, reflects Burmese art of the past and present
and gives new perspective and focus to the array of multi-ethnic
art produced in Burma/Myanmar. The exhibitions highlight the
most iconic pieces from the Burma Art Collection—some never
before publicly exhibited—as well as recent paintings by Burmese
artists on loan from the Thukhuma Collection that illustrate current
artistic practice in Myanmar within the past decade of dramatic
political shifts and more recent social and cultural freedoms.
These exhibitions run through November 18, 2016.
Art-o-mat® machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been
converted to vend art. There are over 100 machines in various locations throughout
the country, including Kishwaukee College. The machine will be dispensing art with
the purchase of a $5 token. Cash payments for tokens will be accepted on site.
Kishwaukee College is a comprehensive two-year community college.

Northern Illinois University is nationally recognized for its outstanding jazz studies program. Graduates from NIU are among the top musicians known in the Chicago area music scene and all over the country. Professor Reggie Thomas coordinates the area and directs the internationally-known NIU Jazz Orchestra
The NIU Jazz Orchestra has performed with many jazz greats and has been featured at many nationally renowned venues such as the Chicago Jazz Festival, the Detroit Jazz Festival, and numerous college jazz festivals. The Jazz Orchestra continues to focus on great swing repertoire and larger extended works while also featuring original work by faculty and students that explore a wide range of colors and textures.
The NIU Steelband is dedicated to demonstrating the versatility and profundity of the steelpan (aka “steeldrum”), the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago. It was the first active steelband formed in an American university, performing throughout the United States and across the globe.
NIU Steelband regularly appears in concert at public schools, universities, conventions and arts series. It has three recordings to its credit, including Dangerous, the band’s most recent, which features an eclectic blend of musical styles. Liam Teague is the Co-Director of this unique and talented musical group.
