YOUNG ENGINEERS AUSTRALIA ILLAWARRA
Young Engineers Australia is currently the single largest sub group within Engineers Australia, with a membership base comprising of 40,000 young engineers. The group has been established for over 20 years, with a local committee in each of Engineers Australia's 9 divisions. A young engineer is considered to be any member of Engineers Australia that is currently completing or has completed a tertiary (university of TAFE) engineering qualification and is between the ages of 18 and 35.
Young Engineers Australia have developed their own strategy in line with that one of Engineer’s Australia's to meet the growing needs of it’s members. With new programs, the continuation of successful initiative from “2005: The Year of the Young Engineer” and relationships rapidly developing with other associations both locally and overseas, Young Engineers Australia is really showing its commitment to enhancing the value of membership for young engineers.

Young Engineers Australia – Illawarra (YEA-I) is a sub branch within the Young Engineers Australia National group. YEA-I exists to represent, support and provide a voice for the young engineering team.
Through a culture of innovation, integrity, and the pursuit of excellence, YEA-I facilitates the professional and personal development of young engineers in line with the Engineers Australia Code of Ethics through seminars, workshops, site visits and networking events.

Chartered Workshop A workshop to help engineers learn about CPEng and the associated benefit as well as assist them in progress towards Chartered Status.

Leadership Workshop A training session on leadership, helping young engineers to develop their leadership skills and learn to manage teams better.

Engineering Q&A The opportunity for young engineers to question a senior panel regarding current engineering topics.

Entrepreneurship Workshop A training session for young engineers to learn how to turn their idea into a business. September TBC
Industry Leaders Share An opportunity for young engineers to learn from industry leaders through hearing their experiences and learning on their engineering journey. This event also provides an opportunity to ask important questions regarding their own journey.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Each year YEA-I committee members volunteer their time to partake in community events to raise the profile of the profession of engineering within the Illawarra region.
Events in which the committee has been involved include: • Engineering activity afternoons for primary
schools • Involvement with career expos at local
high schools • Discovery Day
This year, YEA-I are cementing the place of engineering in the Illawarra community by driving in the first YEA-I Collaborative project. The project has been developed to change the local community’s perception of the engineering profession by showing that engineers are artistic through the development of a piece of art that will be prominently displayed in the local region. The project will include the involvement of students, young engineering professionals and engineering companies to collaboratively produce the piece to create an artistic image of Engineers within the Illawarra.
