Program Design and PurposeThePBLCompetitiveEventsProgramexempliestherangeofactivitiesandfocusofFBLA-PBL,Inc.Theseeventsarebasedon
projectsdevelopedfromthegoalsof FBLA-PBLandthecurriculaof businessprograms.FBLA-PBLiscommittedtofacilitatingthe
transitionof itsmembersfromtheireducationaldevelopmentintotheircareerpath.TheCompetitiveEventsProgramplaysacentralrole
indeliveringonthiscommitment.Theprogramallowsmemberstodemonstrateandvalidatetheirmasteryof essentialbusinessconcepts,skills,andknowledge.Inaddition,membersparticipatinginthis
programwill:
demonstratetheircareercompetencies,businessknowledge,and
job-relatedskills; expandtheirleadershipskills;
demonstratetheircompetitivespirit;and receiverecognitionfortheirachievements.

individualsforaperiodofmanyyears.Theircommitmenttothisassociationandtheirworkarerecognizedandappreciated.
Mission StatementNAPsmissionistopreparestudentsfor
successfulcareersinbusinessthroughsupportforcurriculumdevelopmentandinnovative
assessmenttools.Tohelpmeetthatcharge,the Competitive Events Program has been
developedandmadeavailabletolocaland
statechaptersforuseinassessingstudents
Thereviewprocessisdesignedtorespondinastimelyafashionas
possibletothechangingenvironmentinwhichbusinessndsitself,whileensuringappropriateinputandparticipationfromlocalandstateadvisers and members.
Ingeneral,theNAPCommitteeiscommittedtoregularreviewof all
competitiveevents.AlleventsareevaluatedfollowingtheNLCforadministrativeandoperationalimprovements.Inaddition,eachevent
isreviewedonceeverytwoyearstoensurethatthecontent,focus,andobjectivesoftheeventcontinuetoberelevant,timely,andappropriate
toFBLA-PBLprogramsandobjectives.Finally,theNAPCommitteewelcomesandencourageslocalandstateadvisers,members,orotherinterestedpartiestosubmitideasforeventimprovementsor
additions.IndividualsdesiringtosubmitrecommendationstotheNAPCommittee,ortomakecommentsaboutthecompetitiveevents
program,areencouragedtoreviewtheprocedures.

General informationTheadministrationandconductofPBLsCompetitive Events Program is vested in
thenationalstaff,underthedirectionof theNAPCommittee.Membersof theNAPCommitteeareselectedbasedontheir
experienceandexpertiseinthedevelopmentand/oradministrationofcompetitiveevents.
Committeemembersservethree-yeartermsandareresponsibleforapprovingevent
additions/deletions,ensuringeventsarecurrentandrelevant,developingguidelinesforcompetitiveevents,andadministeringthe
competitiveeventsprogramattheNationalLeadershipConference(NLC).
TheNAPCommitteefollowsadeliberate
processinreviewingandupdatingtheCompetitive Events Program.
Travelandinteractionwithstudentsfromotherschoolsare
tremendouslearningopportunitiesforstudents.
Competitiveeventscanbehelpfulinbuildingschoolspiritandinpublicizingabusinessprogram.

oEvent Entry Forms. Thestatechair,ordesignee,mustcertifythe
statesentriesontheofcialonlineentryform(s).
o Event Verication.Competitiveeventchangesmaynotbemade
aftertherstFridayinJune.Deletionsaretheonlychangesallowedon-site.
o Event Schedules.Participantsmustreportontimefortheir
competitiveeventorbedisqualied.
o Competitive Event Results.Unlessspecicallyindicatedinanindividualeventsguidelines,competitionsatthenationallevelwillbe

centerwillbeprejudged.Aseparatepanelofjudgeswillevaluatethepresentations.Finalrankisdeterminedbytotaling
theprejudgedscoresandthepresentationscores.Theproject/
reportscorewillbeusedtobreakatie.C. Individual and Team Events (objectivetestsand
presentations).Theobjectivetestportionof theseeventswillbetakenattheNLC.Theperformanceportion,includingwritten
materialswhereappropriate,of theseeventswillbeevaluatedbyapanelof judges.Theobjectivetestwillbeusedtobreakatie.
D. Production Tests. Thescorereceivedontheobjectiveportionandtheschoolsitetestvaries.Checkthespecicguidelines.Aseparatepanelof judgesevaluatestheschool-sitetests.Tiesin

Te participants must use a presentation sotware program as anaid in delivering the business presentation.
Te individual or team must provide the computer or thepresentation. A LCD projector will be provided.
Te individual or team must perorm all aspects o the
presentation (e.g., speaking, setup, operating equipment). Othermembers o the chapter may not provide assistance. Five minutes (5) will be allowed to set up and remove equipment
or presentation items. Te individual or team has seven (7) minutes to deliver the
presentation. All team members must actively participate in thepresentation.
Visual aids and samples related to the project may be used in thepresentation; however, no items may be let with the judges oraudience.
A timekeeper will stand at six (6) minutes and again at seven (7)minutes. When the presentation is fnished, the timekeeper willrecord the time used, noting a deduction o fve (5) points or any
presentation over seven (7) minutes. Following each presentation, judges will conduct a three (3)
minute question-answer period. Preliminary perormance is not open to conerence attendees.

event provides recognition for PBL members whodemonstrate the ability to create an effective video to
present an idea to a specic audience.

three(3)membersfromactivelocalchapters,onrecordinthenationalcenterashavingpaid

OverviewThiseventconsistsoftwo(2)parts:aprejudgedprojectandaperformance
component.Aprejudgedprojectshouldbedevelopedbasedonthenationaltopiclisted.

to:sourcesusedtoresearchthetopic;developmentanddesignprocess;useof differentvideotechniques;alistof equipmentand
softwareused;andcopyrightissueswithpictures,music,orotheritems.
Presentationoftheentrymustbeconductedbyparticipantswhoauthoredtheevent.Inthecaseof ateamevent,atleastone(1)authormustgivethepresentationattheNLC;however,all
teammemberswhowishtoberecognizedasnationalwinnersmustregisterfortheNLC.Noreplacementorsubstituteswillbe
allowed.
Fiveminutes(5)willbeallowedtosetupandremoveequipmentorpresentationitems.Theparticipantsmustprovidethecomputerforthepresentationincludingacopyof thedigitalvideo
productionproject.ALCDprojectorwillbeprovided. Theindividualorteammembersmustperformallaspectsof
thepresentation(e.g.,speaking,setup,operatingaudiovisual
equipment).Otherrepresentativesof thechaptermayprovidenoadditionalassistance.
Visualaidsrelatedtotheprojectmaybeused;however,noitemsmaybeleftwiththejudgesoraudience.
Teamswillhaveseven(7)minutestodescribetheproject. Atimekeeperwillstandatsix(6)minutesandagainatseven(7)
minutes.Whenthepresentationisnished,thetimekeeperwill
recordthetimeused,notingadeductionof ve(5)pointsforanytimeoverseven(7)minutes.
