The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, founded in 1885, has a proud heritage of excellence in preparinggraduates to serve as leaders in the professions of engineering and science. We are a state-assisted university providinggraduate and undergraduate degrees in science, engineering, and interdisciplinary studies. We enjoy a diverse enrollmentof nearly 2,500 students from approximately 30 states and 20 countries. Our four interdisciplinary colleges and 13departments offer 30 degree programs in engineering and science disciplines at the baccalaureate, masters, and doctorallevels.

As one of the leading engineering, science and computer technology institutions in the country, South Dakota School ofMines and Technology has been preparing world-class engineers and scientists for more than a century.
South Dakota School of Mines was recently named one of America's100 Best College Buys for the 8th consecutive year. Costs to attend 5 ^at%are approximately $8,373 for tuition, fees, room and board for SouthDakota residents and approximately $11,000 for all out-of-state resi-dents. Tech's 2003-04 graduates averaged starting salaries of morethan $48,000. Job placement for graduates in their career fields orpursuing graduate or professional degrees is 90%.
Each year over 100 companies visit the Tech campus to employ itsgraduates and to offer attractive co-operative (co-op) and internshipopportunities to juniors and seniors. Approximately 81% of eachyear's senior class participate in co-op/internship programs. This fallthe annual career fair attracted over 1,000 students who visited with 84company representatives from 26 states.

SDSM&T is located in Rapid City which lies between the mysterious South Dakota Badlands and the magnificent beau-ty of the Black Hills. Only a short distance from the campus is the majestic Mt. Rushmore and the emerging Crazy HorseMonument. With 56,000 residents Rapid City offers many diverse and interesting attractions for college students.Protection from the adjacent mountains produces unexpectedly mild winters, when it is common for temperatures torisen into the 50's and 60's. The Black Hills offer Tech students such activities as hiking, biking, skiing, snowboarding,camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and mountain climbing.

PresidentDR. CHARLES RUCH
Dr. Charles P. Ruch became the 17th President of the South Dakota Schoolof Mines and Technology on July 1, 2003.
Ruch holds master's and doctorate degrees in education from NorthwesternUniversity and a bachelor's degree in chemistry from The College of Wooster(Ohio). Before joining South Dakota Tech, Dr. Ruch served as President atBoise State University for 10 years. Previously, Dr. Ruch spent 19 years atVirginia Commonwealth University, first as an associate dean and dean, andas provost and vice president. His first university assignment came at theUniversity of Pittsburgh, where he was a faculty member and departmentchair.
An active participant in higher education organizations, Dr. Ruch haschaired the Urban and Metropolitan Universities Committee for the American Association of State Collegesand Universities. He also has served on the presidents' councils of the Big Sky, Big West, and WesternAthletic conferences, and as chair of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education.
Dr. Ruch's professional activities also include participation in the American Council on Education, theAmerican Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, the National Association of State Universities andLand Grant Colleges, and the National Council on Accreditation for Teacher Education. Dr. Ruch has writtenand edited numerous articles, book reviews, and book chapters, and has delivered Congressional testimony.
In every community he has joined, Dr. Ruch has been active in organizations and efforts to make those com-munities better places to live. He has continued that effort in Rapid City, especially when it comes to econom-ic development. In that critical area, he has prioritized using campus expertise to build an even brighterregional economic future. Since joining Tech, Dr. Ruch also has opened lines of communication with the com-munity through a bi-weekly e-letter, begun a strategic planning process, and created numerous partnershipsto improve Tech, the community, the state, and the region.
Dr. Ruch credits his success to the ongoing support from his wife, Sally, their four grown children, and threegrandchildren.
Athletic DirectorHUGH WELSH
Hugh Welsh retired after the 2005 season as head basketball coach at SouthDakota Tech but continued his duties as athletic director. He oversees an 11sport program that has approximately 150 athletes competing. One of the chal-lenges is the future of the DAC Conference and Welsh has worked with fellowDAC athletic directors this year on what changes may lie ahead.
A graduate of Valley City State, he earned his masters degree at the Universityof Mary. He joined the Tech staff in 1986 and ended a 33 year coaching careerwith 545 wins. His wife Heidi is the head volleyball coach at Rapid City Central.He has one son, Sean, who is 19 and is a budding sports journalist, having cov-ered games and written feature stories for the Rapid City Journal.

Head CoachJASON HENRY
Jason Henry is a native of Minot, ND, and just completed his third season as theHardrockers assistant men's basketball coach. During this time he coordinated the team'srecruiting efforts and helped in all aspects of the program. He played high school basketballat Minot Bishop Ryan and college ball at Minot State, where he graduated in 1997 with adegree in physical education.
Henry's coaching career began as an assistant at Minot Bishop Ryan in 1994. He contin-ued as an assistant with stops at West Fargo, ND, and Minot State. He then served as headboy's and girl's coach at PBK High School (Pingree, Buchanan, and Kensal) in ND, and twoseasons as head boy's coach at Washburn, ND. The following season Henry then returnedto the college level with a two year stop at the North Dakota School of Science, a junior col-lege in Wahpeton, as an assistant. During his last year there in 2002, the team finished witha 31-2 mark and set 14 school records. He coached team North Dakota during the summersof 1999-2002 which traveled to Australia and Hawaii to compete in international play. Alongwith his coaching duties over the years, Henry has taught business and physical education classes at the high school and col-lege level.
"I look forward to building my relationships with the people on campus and in the Rapid City area," said Henry. "Tech is awonderful place to coach and Rapid City is a beautiful place to live. I have been blessed to have worked with a number of hall offame coaches and learned so much from Coach Welsh the last few years. I am anxious to implement my style of play along withthe styles that have become part of me from the people I have worked with in the past. With an up-tempo style offense andpressure defense, we hope to have some very exciting basketball in the future. We have been able to get some of the top stu-dent/athletes around the area because of the excellent academic background at Tech. I plan on continuing to bring in these topnotch student - athletes and build upon the foundation that Coach Welsh and SD Tech has built. I hope the community will con-tinue to become more a part of SD Tech and appreciate the student/athletes that represent the school and community so well."
Henry is married to Anne who is a dental hygienist in Rapid City.
Assistant CoachERIC GLENN
Eric Glenn is a native of Riverton, Wyoming, but spent much of his childhood years inHot Springs where his father was the head football coach. He played football and basketballfor two years at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska where he was a back-up quar-terback and point guard. He then finished his final two years with the Eagle basketball pro-gram. He graduated from Chadron State with a Bachelor of Science degree in BusinessEducation (1993). After graduation, he immediately stayed on as an assistant for then headcoach, Bob Wood, where he helped the Eagles to their first Rocky Mountain AthleticConference league championship. As an assistant at Chadron State he earned a Master ofArts degree in Sports and Recreation Management. In 1995, he went to the University ofWyoming where he was the third assistant on Joby Wright's basketball staff. After a two yearstint at Wyoming, he moved on to Scottsbluff High School where he was the assistant coachon the Bearcats District B-6 championship team that qualified for the Nebraska StateTournament. The next season he went to Missouri Valley College where he was the assis-
tant men's basketball coach for the Vikings of the Heart of America Athletic Conference. In 2000, he was hired as the headcoach of Missouri Valley where he led the Vikings to their best conference finish in four years, hosted and won play-off tourna-ment games two out of the three years and was nominated for conference coach of the year twice. From 2001 to 2003 heserved on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II National Tournament Committee. In 2003 hetook the opportunity to move closer to family and became an assistant at Black Hills State University under Mike Kruszynski.Glenn has directed and worked at over 30 different camps and clinics throughout the Midwest, which have included theUniversity of Wyoming, Colorado State University, Chauncey Billups Basketball Camps, Creighton University, Mike TraderBasketball Camps and Montana State University.
He is married to the former Lorna Dahlgren, who played for the Chadron State women's basketball program from 1991 - 1995where she holds career records in assists and steals and is in the top five in points, rebounds and free throws. They have oneson, Jarek, who is four.
