2 Kings 3 1 Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to
reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of
Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve
years. 2 And he wrought evil in the sight of the
LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother:
for he put away the image of Baal that his father
had made.
This is the second of the sons of Ahab to take the
throne of Israel; brother to Ahaziah.
Though not as wicked as his Daddy, mama, and
brother, he still wrought evil in the sight of God.
3
3 Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to
sin; he departed not therefrom. 4 And Mesha king
of Moab was a sheepmaster, and rendered unto the
king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an
hundred thousand rams, with the wool.
The sins of Jeroboam included the worship of
calves which he built to keep the people in Israel.
This is the second rebellion of Mesha king of the
Moabites against Israel to avoid huge tribute.
4
5 But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the
king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel. 6 And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same
time, and numbered all Israel. 7 And he went and
sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The
king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou
go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I
will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy
people, and my horses as thy horses.
5
8 And he said, Which way
shall we go up? And he
answered, The way through
the wilderness of Edom. 9
So the king of Israel went,
and the king of Judah, and
the king of Edom: and they
fetched a compass of seven
days' journey: and there
was no water for the host,
and for the cattle that
followed them.
6
He took advice of Jehoshaphat, who had more
wisdom and experience than himself, which way
they should make their descent upon the country of
Moab; and he advised that they should not march
against them the nearest way, over Jordan, but go
round through the wilderness of Edom, that they
might take the king of Edom (who was tributary to
him) and his forces along with them. If two be
better than one, much more will not a three-fold
cord be easily broken.
7
Jehoshaphat had like to have paid dearly for
joining with Ahab, yet he joined with his son, and
this expedition also had like to have been fatal to
him. There is nothing got by being yoked with
unbelievers.http://www.studylight.org/commentaries/mhm/view.cgi?book=2ki&chapter=003
Sometimes God’s people just can’t (or won’t)
see the value of the Truth of God’ Word.
They measure it against their own human logic.
8
10 And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD
hath called these three kings together, to deliver
them into the hand of Moab!
Perhaps the biggest sinner of the group was
claiming that God brought them together.
But just because he said it, didn’t make it so.
9
11 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet
of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by
him? And one of the king of Israel's servants
answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of
Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of
Elijah.
Elisha had been a well known servant to Elijah.
Now he has taken Elijah’s place, with a double
portion of the Power of God upon him.
10
12 And Jehoshaphat said,
The Word of the LORD is
with him. So the king of
Israel and Jehoshaphat and
the king of Edom went
down to him.
They knew who had the
Power.
11
13 And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What
have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of
thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And
the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the
LORD hath called these three kings together, to
deliver them into the hand of Moab.
Why are you coming to me, the prophet of
Almighty God, Whom you will not serve?
The king of Israel insisted that God had put them
in this predicament. Not true.
12
14 And Elisha said, As the
LORD of hosts liveth, before
whom I stand, surely, were it
not that I regard the presence of
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah,
I would not look toward thee,
nor see thee. 15 But now bring
me a minstrel. And it came to
pass, when the minstrel played,
that the Hand of the LORD
came upon him.
13
Music can often set the mood for the Spirit of God
to move in a man of God or a congregation.
Remember when Saul was
beset by demons, David
could play music to calm
him and let God move.
14
2 Chronicles 5 11 And it came to pass, when the
priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the
priests that were present were sanctified, and did
not then wait by course: 12 Also the Levites which
were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman,
of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren,
being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and
psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the
altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests
sounding with trumpets:)
15
13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and
singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard
in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they
lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals
and instruments of music, and praised the LORD,
saying, For He is good; for His mercy endureth for
ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud,
even the house of the LORD; 14 So that the priests
could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud:
for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of
God.
16
The Glory of God filled the House – when –
When the singers sang praises unto The Lord.
God loves music played and sang in praise
and thanksgiving unto Him.
17
Sing more and more unto The Lord!
We want the Glory of God in our midst.
Psalm 150 1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in His
sanctuary: praise Him in the firmament of His
power. 2 Praise Him for His mighty acts: praise
Him according to His excellent greatness. 3 Praise
Him with the sound of the trumpet: praise Him
with the psaltery and harp.
18
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: praise
Him with stringed instruments and organs. 5 Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: praise Him
upon the high sounding cymbals. 6 Let everything
that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the
LORD.
If we would have the Glory of God in our midst,
we must worship Him with music and singing.
