Vocabulary terms - US Manned Space programs1. Mercury - one man sub orbital and orbital missions first manned flight in 1961 and ended 1963 after 6 successful manned flights
2. Gemini - 2 man orbital missions, starting in 1965 and ending in 1966 after 10 successful manned flights.
3. Apollo - 3 man lunar program with 11 manned flights. There were 8 missions holding 24 Apollo astronauts who went around the moon with 6 missions placing 12 men on the surface of the moon.
4. Space Lab - NASA’s first space station orbited the Earth from 1973 to 1979. 3 missions had 9 astronauts.
5. Space Shuttle - The Space Shuttle was a crewed, partially reusable low Earth orbital spacecraft. There were 135 successful missions and 2 failures.
6. International Space Station -The ISS is a space station in low Earth orbit. A modular structure, the first part was launched in 1998. 15 nations have been represented aboard. It is in use today.
7. Extraterrestrial: anything outside of the Earth and its atmosphere.
