during the half time as well as furnish

during the game. During the pas! two
seasons they have combined forces
with the PURPLE JACKETS to create
more colorful routines on the football

Sergeant Payne not only exercised his military duties this year, but also
coached the fine basketball team through a tough varsity season.
Although this 1949-50 season tearn is not the first in the history of North
east Junior College; it has done a fine job in elevating the sport of basketball
to a varsity standing, where we hope it deserves a place and will remain'.

Nominees were sub mitted by every interested organization on the campus at the invita tion of the Chacohoula sta ff. Se vera l clubs combine d their vo ting strength to su pport the same candidate. The effectiv eness of their m ove became increasingly obvious as ballots were • coun ted.
Interest in the choice of Miss NJC moun ted quickl y a s the da y for voling drew to a close. Last m inute ballo ts were cast, a nd the election commissioners adjourned for a two-ho ur session with 1000 crossmarks .
Many of the no minees were defeated by a n extremel y narrow markin, as beau ty was a ra ther common a tl ribute a mong the cand idates .
In spite 01 Il)e- close ejection, fe w voters we re surprised a t the outcome. Agnes Jones and Alice Perry have proved cons iste nt winners in every beau ty a nd Homecoming co ntest that ha s been held s ince O ctober, 1948 . A gla nce at the pho tograph s offer sufficient e xpla nation.
