18th
Sunday in Ord. Time
1st / 2nd August 2015 Vol. 33 No. 34
Paul and Sonia Tanham are
celebrating their 60th wedding
anniversary on the 19th August.
They came to the Holy Rosary
Parish in 1966 with four children
and two more children were born
while they lived in Woodlands. All
of their six children and seven of
their grandchildren have been
educated in Holy Rosary school,
Siena, Marist Brothers and now
Newman College. Paul and Sonia
have been part of the Holy Rosary
Parish for the past 48 years and
they have seen many changes over
the years including the building of
the church. They look forward to
many more years at the church
and in the area.
Parish Open Day Hits the Mark
The organisers of last weekend’s Parish Open Day are
delighted with its success. Event co-ordinator Helen Murray
says the outcome was extremely pleasing.
Fr Peter opened the event, reminding the crowd of the parable
of the loaves and fishes with its powerful lesson about sharing
and relationship formation. More than 300 people are
estimated to have attended. The event centred on fellowship,
friendship and family fun with the level of participation
spanning all age groups.
Many people commented favourably on the wide range of
activities and enterprises undertaken in the parish, some of
which were not previously known to them. New volunteers
were enlisted for numerous groups and ministries.
As a result of generous donations, 5 gourmet hampers and 10
other prizes were raffled on the day and 3 door prizes awarded.
The day featured a cake stall, organised by Felicity Kendall and
supported by the Holy Rosary School P &F, a sausage sizzle,
information desks, music entertainment, morning tea and
coffee, children’s activities and a baby animal farm. One
highlight was the unveiling of a series of 27 stunning
photographic “mini-murals” depicting parish life – all taken
and produced by Richard Goodwin.
The money raised from each stall amounted to:
Tea & Coffee $ 117.90
Sausage Sizzle $ 406.00
P & F Cake stall $ 595.90
Raffle $ 609.30
TOTAL $1,729.10
Father Peter, on behalf of the Parish Pastoral Council, would
like to thank everyone who contributed their time and energy to
the success of the Open Day, with special thanks to
Helen Murray, Richard Goodwin, Charles Vinci and the Holy
Rosary School P & F and everyone who attended.

Saint of the Week
St Dominic
Feast Day: 7th
August
St. Dominic, the founder of the Order of
Preachers (the Dominicans) was born at
Calaruega, Spain in 1170. He was a man
who led an austere life dedicated to God
He travelled widely, but always in
humility, without pomp or retainers, and
often even without his shoes.
He was dedicated to education, believing
that knowledge would open peoples' eyes
to the truth about the Lord. He died in
1221 and was canonised in 1234.
St Dominic is the patron saint of scientists,
astronomers and astronomy, all of which
reflect his love of learning and spreading
knowledge.[read more - www.catholic.org/saints] ____________________________________________________________
