GENERAL PLANOn thegeneral plan you can seeall thecomponents ofthedesign strategy.Thestitch provides a strongconnection be-

tween thenorth and south and inte-grates thepedestrians within theurbandesign ofthe site.On themiddleof theproject an open sports field is shared

by thefour units. Each oneofthem hasa community program on thegroundfloor as it goes:

Unit 1:

Unit 2:

Unit 3:

Unit 4:

Basketball courts and skate

DETAIL PLANUNITONE - GROUND LEVEL Thecommunity program is placed underneaththebuilding in an open spacebut protectedby thecolumns ofit. It is properly distancedfrom therailway linebut not turningits backtowards it.Green area surrounds the communi-ty programs that functions as an intermediarybetween theroad and rail lines to the thoughprograms. This disposition,as well as givinga

open facadeto thecity, provides thesite withnon restrictingprograms, which ensures thattheland can beused at any time.

DETAIL PLANUNITONE - LEVELONE

Thesmall commerceis located here.Itis connected to thestitch with an open

deck that serves as a prelude to theshops and as theroof for theparkingunderneath itself:for every meter taken

by cars you gain a meter as public space. This level has thefunction ofactivatingtheconnection paths and maintaininga dynamic flow on thestitch. The next

four levels areresidential, they maintaina stableamount ofusers in the placeand providethemissingsecurity on thesite.

A urban pack was designed to fill it and providethesitewith new different conections:a

pedestrians way and a cycling path. Both comealongwith arborization, theproper urbanstructurelikebenches and water fountains, and a green field under thebridge.Thebridge’sstructureprovides thelighting.

PROJECT COMPONENTS

Christchurch has been battered with theprevious earthquakes that struck thecity.Within thiscontext our holeclass aim was to research and proposenew outlines for thefutureofthecityitself. To do so, each student grouptook over different problematic zones to further developtheseschemes. Our groupchooseTower Junction and after researchingtogether wedevelo-

ped threedifferent solutions for theproblems wefocused on.

Themain objectiveofthis project is solvingtheexistingdisconnection in thesitefocusingon therailway, presentingtheproblems it carries nowdays and tryingto developa new wayin which thecity interacts with this strongelement,in hope that this may serveto encoura-getheconstruction ofa better city.
