Pam Knox returnsforherninthseasonastheleaderoftheWesternOregonsoftballprogramin2011.SheledtheWolvestotheironlyNCAAwestregiontournamentin2008,aftertheteamearnedashareoftheGreatNorthwestAthleticConferencetitlewithan18-6record.WesternOregonadvancedtothefinalsoftheNCAADivisionIIwestregionchampionshipandfinishedtheseasonwitha33-18record,afterrankingashighasNo.8inthenationalrankings(Mar.5).Lastseason,theWolvesfinishedsecondintheGNACwitha26-14markinconferenceanda32-21recordoverall.Thismarkedfirsttimeinthe26yearsoftheprogramtheWolveshaverecordedfourstraightseasonwitha.500orbetterwinningpercentage.Knoxalsorecruitedsomeofthemostdecoratedstudent-athletesinschoolhistory.TylerSutherlandearnedtheGNACPlayeroftheYearandAll-Americanhonorsin2009underKnox’stutelage.Fivestudent-athletesearnedAll-GNAChonorsin2010undertheleadershipofKnox,includingthreebeingvotedtothefirstteam.

Knoxnowhasa16-yearoverallcollegiatecoachingmarkof389-352,afteralsodirectingteamsatNorthwestMissouriStateandParkCollege.ShearrivedatWOUin2003,andherfirstWolvesteamwent27-17overallandtiedforsecondintheGreatNorthwestAthleticConferencewitha14-7record,justmissingaplayoffberth.PriortoherarrivalinMonmouth,KnoxcoachedatanotherNCAADivisionIIschoolforsixseasons.AtNorthwestMissouriState,Knoxposteda146-117record,leadingtheBearcatstoaMid-AmericaIntercollegiateAthleticsAssociationChampionshipin1999.Hersquadwas29-16in2002,theschool’sbestmarksincethe1986season.TheBearcatshadwinningseasonsinfiveofthesixcampaignswithKnoxasitsleader.

PriortohertimeatNorthwestMissouriState,KnoxcreatedthesoftballprogramatParkCollege(Missouri),guidingthePiratestoa53-38recordintwoseasons(1995-96).ShehasalsoservedasanassistantatCentralMissouriState(1990-92)andSantaAnaCollege(1981-85)wastheheadsoftballandvolleyballcoachatBrownMackieCollegeinKansas(1993-94).

A1976graduateofNewportHarborHighSchoolinSouthernCalifornia,KnoxstartedatshortstopfortwoseasonsatGoldenWestCollege,helpingleadhersquadtotwonationaljuniorcollegechampionships.ShethenwentontocaptainteamsattheUniversityofArizonaandCalStateFullerton,leadingbothclubsintotheAIAWCollegeWorldSeries.Knoxholdsabachelor’sdegreefromCalStateFullertonandhasamaster’sdegreeinphysicaleducationfromCentralMissouriState.

Marie StonejoinstheWesternOregonsoftballcoachingstaffforherfirstseasonastheteam’spitchingcoach.StonetakesoverastheWolves’pitchingcoachafterservingastheheadcoachofthesoftballprogramatOurLadyoftheLakeUniversityinSanAntonio,Texas.Inheroneseasonatthehelmoftheprogram,StoneguidedtheSaintstoa30-16recordandasecondplacefinishintheRedRiverAthleticConference(22-6).Sheledfourstudent-athletestoall-conferencehonorsandearnedtheRedRiverAthleticConferenceCoachoftheYear.Inheroneseason,OurLadyoftheLakeUniversityledtheRRACinbattingaverage(.335),sluggingpercentage(.484)andhomeruns(42).Theteamwasalso

nationallyrankedinrunsscored(10th),hits(11th)homeruns(13th),battingaverage(23rd)andsluggingpercentage(23rd).

“Mariebringsknowledge,experience,passionandenthusiasmtoourprogram,”saidWesternOregonheadcoachPamKnox.“Shehasbeenanassistantcoachandaheadcoachatthecollegelevel.IamexcitedtohavesomeonewiththatexperienceonboardhereatWesternOregon.Mariewillbeworkingprimarilywithourpitchersandcatchers,overseetheconditioningandweighttrainingprogramandassistwithrecruiting.”Priortoherfirstjobasaheadcoach,StonehadstopsatHillCollege(Hillsboro,Texas)andReinhardtCollege(Waleska,Ga.)intheroleofassistantcoach.

DuringherplayingcareeratTexasWesleyanUniversity,Stonewasatwo-timeall-conferenceperformerandwasnamedtheco-playeroftheyear.ShestillholdstheTexasWesleyanschoolrecordswithstrikeoutsinagame(14)andtotalbasesinagame(11).

Stoneearnedherbachelor’sdegreeinExerciseScienceatTexasWesleyanUniversity.Sheearnedhermaster’sdegreetwoyearslaterinSportsAdministrationfromTexasWomen’sUniversity.StoneisanativeofPittsburg,Texas.
