• Applying the best available techniques in electricity-generating large combustion plants could have reduced NOx emissions by up to 59% and SO2 by as much as 80% in the examined year (2004)

EEA Assessment reports: Air pollution by EEA Assessment reports: Air pollution by ozone across Europe during summer 2007ozone across Europe during summer 2007
• Assesses air pollution by ground level ozone in Europe during the summer months on the basis of a number of benchmarks in terms of ozone concentrations and protection of human health
• High concentrations of ozone in Europe were lower during the summer of 2007 than any other year in the past decade
• However as with previous years the EU’s long term objective to protect human health was extensively exceeded in the EU and other European countries. The target value for human health protection was also exceeded in a significant part of Europe.
