Press Release: iVOX Ukraine Express Political Study, Key Facts

“Ukrainian population attitudes towards recent political events”, 4-6 December, 2014

iVOX Ukraine, the Ukrainian-Belgian public opinion research agency (www.ivox.com.ua ), has just

processed the results of the study: Public opinion of Ukrainian population upon the most recognized

recent political events (November 26 – December 6, 2014). Key findings and facts of the study:

Perceived as the most important recent events:

On top is president Putin’s open threat of full-scale military campaign against Ukraine (85% of the

population treat as important). The agreement of a new UA Parliament coalition with the

declaration of intent to join NATO follows (84%). The least important out of 10 events tested is

the foundation of an additional Ministry in the Cabinet: the Ministry of Information Policy (42%).

The people with income “above average” perceive as more important compared to the rest of the

population: Western supply of the modern non-lethal weapons to Ukraine (91%), appearance of

the “expat” (foreign) Ministers in the UA Cabinet (79%) and recent powerful terrorist attack by

the rebels in Groznyi, Chechen republic (72%).

Males take significantly more seriously the NATO application by UA (88%) and the 2nd wave of

lustration of state officials (82%) than females.

The Ukrainians are now more focused on the domestic affairs and prospects than on the foreign

affairs. Disgrace of Putin and Chechen terrorist attack in Groznyi are treated significantly less

important than NATO and modern weapon supply to Ukraine (84% and 83% respectively).

The most unanimous attitude of good vs. bad by the Ukrainians in general are taken by: Critics to

Putin on the World TOP-20 summit in Australia - 71% treat “very good” and “President Putin’s

threats of the full-scale military invasion” - 81% = “very bad”.

“Chechen terrorist attack in Groznyi” is treated more positive than “Set up of the new Ministry of

information policy”.

The event that differentiated the public opinion the most is “Suspend of governmental funding of

social expenses on the occupied territories of Donbass” : 33% = “bad”, 49%=“good”.

Poorer part of the population is significantly more sensitive to “Pessimistic forecast (of

continuous recession) for 2015 by Prime-Minister Yatseniuk” (88% = bad) and much less

sensitive to “NATO for Ukraine” and “The expat ministers for the new Cabinet” (split attitudes in

the group).

The survey has been taken by iVOX Ukraine agency during 4-6 December via online interviews

throughout Ukraine. The effective sample of 508 respondents represents the population of Ukraine by
