FROM THE PASTOR
Dear Friends in Christ,
Today is Gaudete Sunday! We enter the second half of the Advent Sea-son “Rejoicing in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice! The Lord is near” (Philippians 4:4-5) We rejoice this day at St. Clement in a special way be-cause Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas is honored in a spe-cial way at Plant City Stadium. I am very proud of those who have volunteered to help the celebra on this year. Recognizing the need for the mul tudes to be fed spiritually and physically; and responding to that need by volunteering your me and talent to this effort has been a true blessing to the parish. I offer a special thanks to the leader of the Commi ee of Our Lady of Guadalupe Maria Chavez and all those who work so hard all year to make this major event happen.
Another reason I have to be joyful today is the great gi of two people in the parish who have a heart for the mul tudes that have fallen away from their faith. One is Judy Zink. She is the driving force behind so much of what has hap-pened in our catechumenate and RCIA process. Her dedica on is lived out as a volunteer at the parish level but she gives much credit to her training received at the Diocesan level in the program known as the Lay Pastoral Ministry Ins tute (LPMI) which Bishop Lynch put into place when he arrived as our bishop almost 15 years ago. Eight years ago Ma hew Kelly wrote a book en tled Rediscovering Catholicism (313pages) that has proven to be a phenomenal tool to help many get back in touch with their Catholic faith. Judy found another member of the parish who, like her desires to reach out to the mul tudes that have not been coming to church. On the condi on of anonymity he has donated thousands of dollars for the purchase of 1,500 of these books to be given out on Christmas. I am very joyful this day for these two people and the good things God is doing in our parish through their generous gi s of me, talent and treasure.
I am also joyful this day for the gi of forgiveness. I hope you too can appreciate this tremendous gi in your life. We heard John the Bap st give some fiery preaching last weekend about repen ng and this weekend he is in prison inquiring about the compassionate works of Christ. Our Lord is the one who for-gives sins. It is humbling to admit our wrongs to another human being but unless we have that experience we miss out on the grace in the sacrament of reconcilia-
on. Our annual Advent Penance Service is scheduled for this Wednesday at 7pm. We should have no less than nine priests available for confessions this Wednesday. If you wish to come but cannot make it this Wednesday you should know that Na vity will have their APS on Mon. 12/13 at 7PM and St. Francis will have theirs on Thurs. 12/16 at 7:30pm with the Lakeland parishes of St. Joseph and Resurrec on offering their APS on Mon. 12/20 7:30pm & Tues. 7pm respec-
vely. Experience the joy of forgiveness and truly be ready to celebrate Christ-mas with mind and heart renewed.
Peace in Christ, Fr. Tom J. Anastasia, Pastor Page 2

Tom J. Anastasia, Pastor
