Study: Teen Marijuana Use Has No Link To MentalHealth Problems
Chronic marijuana use as an adolescent has no link to mental or physical healthproblems later in life, according to a new study conducted over the past 20 years.
GUY BENTLEY
Published by the American Physiological Association(http://www.foxnews.com/health/2015/08/04/study-finds-no-link-between-teen-marijuana-use-mental-health-issues/), researchers from the University of PittsburghMedical Center and Rutgers University divided participants into four groups from theirteenage years onward.
One group almost never smoked marijuana, one used it mostly in their teenage years, another started using in adulthood and the final group of subjects started usingmarijuana early and continued into their adult years.
There had been some evidence to suggest (http://www.medicaldaily.com/men-are-more-likely-suffer-cannabis-psychosis-women-study-344422)that regular marijuanause among teenagers was linked to mental problems such as depression andschizophrenia. Indeed, lead researcher Jordan Bechtold was expecting to find similarresults and said what they discovered was “a little surprising.”
The study found that (http://www.newswise.com/articles/teen-marijuana-use-not-linked-to-later-depression-lung-cancer-other-health-problems-research-finds) “chronicmarijuana users were not more likely than late increasing users, adolescence-limitedusers, or low/nonusers to experience several physical or mental health problems intheir mid-30s.”
In fact, there were no significant differences between marijuana trajectory groups interms of adult health outcomes, even when models were run without controlling forpotential confounds. The researchers found no link between teen marijuana use andlifetime depression, anxiety, allergies, headaches or high blood pressure.
The study also breaks new ground (http://www.medicaldaily.com/chronic-teen-marijuana-use-may-not-cause-mental-health-physical-problems-after-all-345924) inthat it was able to track 408 subjects as they grew up, rather than looking back onmarijuana use retrospectively to find a link with current health problems. All thesubjects were male and the study controlled for factors such as cigarette smoking andsocioeconomic background.

Although the researchers caution that a single study shouldn’t be looked at inisolation, they argue it should contribute to debate surrounding marijuanalegalization. Washington, Colorado, Alaska and Oregon have already legalizedrecreational marijuana use and campaigners are hoping to push the reformsnationwide.
“Everyone wants to prevent teen marijuana use, but we don’t need to exaggerate itsharms and arrest responsible adults in order to do it,” Mason Tvert, communicationsdirector at the Marijuana Policy Project, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
“Hopefully, this study will lead to a reevaluation of the tactics that are being used todiscourage teens from trying marijuana,” he added.

Youssef Ismail • 5 hours agoAnother "reefer madness" funded study falls flat on it's face. How many more do we need? The"horrors" of marijuana use simply do not exist. At this point it is very safe to say, marijuana is farsafer than alcohol, tobacco, and even fast food. It's medical applications are vast, it's safety isunmatched by any prescription pill, and its illegal status is nothing short of a farce. The morons whocannot (or refuse to) see this will not be taken seriously any longer. Too many lives have beendestroyed thanks to the fairytales of "reefer madness".

All we are left with is short termmemory loss and a "mental addiction" rate of 9%, less than Folger's coffee. Marijuana is the safestmedicine on earth, and it should have never been criminalized in the first place. Thank God scienceis finally catching up with reality.

The horrible part of this is that science never lost touch with reality. Our politicians andlawmakers lost touch with science. Empirical data has always been available to prove theefficacy of cannabis and the fact that it's safe to use. Our corporate controlled politiciansonly listen to those who line their pockets with cash.

Data direct from CDC dot gov show that no one has ever died from a marijuanaoverdose in all recorded medical history, while serial killers tobacco, alcohol and prescription drugsdirectly cause over 650,000 deaths per year every single year in the USA.Nothing complicated or hard to understand about these statistics cited directly from CDC dot gov.on numbers of deaths per year in the USA * Prescription Drugs: 237,485 + 5000 traffic fatalities * Tobacco: 390,323* Alcohol: 88,013 + 16,000 traffic fatalities * Cocaine: 4,906* Heroin: 3,365* Aspirin: 466* Acetaminophen (Tylenol): 179* Marijuana: 0, none, not a single fatal overdose in all medical history and almost no traffic problemsSo, which is safer?

Cannabis has been in continuous use for over five thousand years. The data from theCenter for Disease Control clearly shows cannabis far safer than the legal alternativesalcohol, tobacco and pharmaceutical drugs which are directly responsible for over 650,000deaths per year, each and every year, year in and year out in the United States alone.

Ah, but when you compare light social use in terms of health and mental healtheffects, that's when the danger of the two drugs flip. No one would argue that a glassor two on weekends can pose lasting harm, but a joint or two on weekends is whenthe risk for psychotic outcomes becomes significant. Also Freedom fighter, you of allpeople should take a look at the cultures where cannabis has been used forthousands of years. Those aren't the cultures I want to live in.

Sure:
For cause and effect (which comes first: psychosis or marijuana use):Arseneault L, et al. 2002, Cannabis use in adolescence and risk for adultpsychosis: longitudinal prospective study.BMJ. 23;325(7374):1212-3.“Firstly, cannabis use is associated with an increased risk of experiencingschizophrenia symptoms, even after psychotic symptoms preceding theonset of cannabis use are controlledfor, indicating that cannabis use is not secondary to a preexisting psychosis.Secondly, early cannabis use (by age 15) confers greater risk forschizophrenia outcomes than later cannabis use (by age 18). Thirdly, riskwas specific tocannabis use, as opposed to use of other drugs....”

in that first study, you left out these quotes:
"This study could not establish whether adolescent cannabis use was aconsequence of pre-existing psychotic symptoms rather than a cause."
"Although most young people use cannabis in adolescence without harm, avulnerable minority experience harmful outcomes."
all three of those studies point to marijuana not mixing well withschizophrenics, and none of them prove that marijuana has ever causedschizophrenia or psychosis. they only point out that marijuana can amplifyexisting psychosis.
you know what else exacerbates schizophrenia? Caffeine.

so lets ban caffeine, because it drives a small minority of psychopaths a bitcrazier than usual.

Scientists always err on the side of caution; but as the evidence has builtsince the 2005 Henquest report, they now feel they have enough data to sayit is causal: DiForti M, et al.Proportion of patients in south London with first-episode psychosis attributable to use of high potency cannabis: a case-control study. AND there's a lot more where that came from....dose-response studiesshowing the more someone uses, the greater the lifetime risk of psychosis;administration of THC in clinical trials elicits psychotic symptoms (4publications); cannabis-induced psychosis leads to eventual schizophreniamore than any other drug-induced psychosis (that from a study of 19,000cases of drug-induced psychosis in Finland); marijuana advances the age ofonset of schizophrenia, i.e. users get it at an earlier age (over 25publications); controlling for background genetic factors by studying siblings -the brother or sister who uses is much more likely to become psychotic (3publications); yet people with a history of psychosis in the family are no morelikely to use marijuana than anyone else.

Top Immigration Agency Touts ‘Path To Citizenship’As Means For Blunting Homegrown Terror
The top U.S. immigration agency told aSenate subcommittee it’s working to blunt
homegrown terrorism by marketing U.S. citizenship to immigrants.
“In furtherance of DHS’s mission to safeguard the homeland, [United StatesCitizenship and Immigration Services] is committed to fostering integration andcommunity cohesion,” the agency recently told the Immigration and the NationalInterest Subcommittee in records obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.(RELATED: Boston Partners With The Feds To Market Citizenship To Illegals)

The subcommittee had pointed to the arrest of Six Somali men(http://dailycaller.com/2015/04/20/homegrown-alleged-jihadi-ring-in-minnesota-busted-by-fbi/) on terror-related charges in Minnesota — where a large population ofSomali refugees was resettled — as evidence of the threat and then asked whetherUSCIS can guarantee other communities won’t face similar threats from thethousands of Syrian war refugees that have been settled stateside.
Referring to it’s efforts to promote citizenship, officials from USCIS made an appeal tonationalism: “These efforts emphasize the role that shared citizenship rights andresponsibilities play to unify all Americans.” (RELATED: Homegrown Alleged Jihadi

In terms of actively tracking these kinds of refugees, USCIS told the subcommittee itopted against the idea of a parole program in 2013, finding “such a program was notwarranted,” but noted that it may yet reconsider the idea.
USCIS said the U.S. is expected to admit between one thousand and two thousandSyrian refugees in Fiscal Year 2015, but it doesn’t have an estimate on the number forfuture years.

College Head Furious After School Is Named No. 1Party School In US
The Princeton Review, which ranks collegeson a host of metrics from academics to beer consumption, has released its annual list(http://www.princetonreview.com/college-rankings?rankings=party-schools) ofAmerica’s top party colleges, and the winner isn’t happy about it.
Phyllis Wise, the chancellor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne (UIUC),which took the top spot, says there is far more the school should be known for ratherthan partying, and criticized the ranking for being insufficiently “scientific.”
“This is not a scientifically based ranking. It’s a promotion for The Princeton Review,”Wise said in a statement (http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2015-08-04/ui-dismisses-pseudo-ranking-top-party-school.html). “Our student body is comprised ofthe brightest, most hard-working students anywhere. Their graduation rates andachievements in their careers and lives demonstrate that they take their studiesseriously and that they are at Illinois to get a world-class education. It’s disappointing

that, once again, Princeton Review is promoting this pseudo ranking as though it weremeaningful. It’s insulting to all of our students, since they are here to prepare tobecome leaders of their generation.”
While Wise might blast the Princeton Review for relying on an “unscientific” approach, she’s also essentially denigrating the viewpoints of the “hard-working” students sheoversees. The Princeton Review’s rankings are based on the attitudes of surveys givento thousands of students across the country, meaning UIUC’s high ranking is based onthe belief of its students that the school is a rowdy place.
This is UIUC’s first time at the top of the list, though it’s come close before, finishing fifth and third, respectively, in the last two years. Last year’s winner SyracuseUniversity fell to fifth place.
Besides Illinois, the remainder of the top 20 are:
2. Iowa
3. Wisconsin
4. Bucknell
5. Syracuse
6. University of California, Santa Barbara
7. West Virginia
8. Georgia
9. Tulane
10. Colgate
11. Lehigh
12. Ole Miss
13. Penn State
14. Florida
15. Florida State
16. Ohio
17. DePauw
18. Vermont
19. Miami (Ohio)
20. College of Charleston
Presenting a sharp contrast to the hard-partying ways of other colleges, the schoolranked as the most “Stone-Cold Sober” is no surprise: Brigham Young University inUtah. The school, operated by the Mormon Church, has a strict honor code thatprohibits both extramarital sex and the consumption of alcohol. It’s finished #1 in thesobriety category every single year since it was introduced in 1997.
Party schools may be getting a lot of attention, but plenty of other categories wereranked in Monday’s release (http://www.princetonreview.com/press/best-380-colleges). According to Princeton Review, Vanderbilt University in Tennessee has thehappiest students, Clemson in South Carolina is the most enthusiastic aboutsports, and Bowdoin College in Maine has the best food. Small, arch-Catholic ThomasAquinas College in California is ranked as having the most conservative student body, while the even tinier Marlboro College in Vermont has the most liberal.
