A verbal hook is the memorable section of the lyrics. This can sometimes be the title.
A melodic hook is performed by the singers or instrumentalists. It needs to contain pitch.
A verbal hook can also be made from nonsense words, such as in the song, De do do do, de da da da by The Police.
