At Butters Zumba, health and wellness are the main focus. Zumba instructor Amy Butters strives to make people feel better about their health and themselves, with the ultimate goal of “amping up” their self worth.

Founded in 2012, Butters Zumba offers classes in Plymouth and Howards Grove. For Butters, a new member of the Elkhart Lake Chamber of Commerce, the business is a natural extension of her past experi-ences with dance.

She was introduced to Zumba classes in college, furthering a love for dance that was fostered as a dance team mem-ber and cheerleader. When cheerleading opportunities ended, she saw teaching Zumba as a means of continuing her pas-sion for dance.

Taking “work” out of workoutZumba classes take the “work” out of

workout, Butters said. The workouts mix low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning fit-ness party.

“Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba Fit-ness classes are often called exercise in disguise,”Butters said.

“The classes offer a total workout, com-bining all elements of fitness—cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flex-ibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class,” she added.

Zumba phenomenonButters’ enthusiasm for Zumba is not

restricted to her alone. “People don’t just love it, they live it,” she said.

Zumba is a world-wide phenomenon with more than 15 million people taking classes in 180 countries around the world.

Butters has certification in Zumba Ba-sics 1 and 2, and will soon add an Aqua Zumba certification.

In addition to her traditional classes, she also adds “abs” challenges after some sessions. She is interested in starting a running group prior to her Wednesday evening classes.

sions at multiple locations. Current classes include—n Monday at the Plymouth Youth Cen-

ter from 5:30-6:30; n Tuesday at the Howards Grove Activ-

ity Center from 6-7 p.m.; and n Wednesday at the

Plymouth Genera-tions Building from 6 to 7 p.m.

Butters is also plan-ning to start an Aqua Zumba class in Kiel in the near future.

On Tuesdays, daycare opportunities are avail-able, when at least three children are signed up. Class members are encouraged to call in advance to guarantee their care spot.
