The Zoroastrian Trust Funds of Europe Incorporated is truly indebted to the Late Zartoshty Brothers, our patrons and benefactors, and members of their families for their immense support. The interest of the Late Zartoshty Brothers in the welfare of the Zoroastrian Community in the United Kingdom and Europe and indeed Zoroastrian communities throughout the World was admirable. Their generosity and munificent donations have surpassed the normal duty of a Zoroastrian for Charity.
The support and benevolence of the Zartoshty Brothers and their families is exemplary in the history of our Association. The ZTFE was able to purchase and renovate the heritage listed Grade II* Zoroastrian Centre, because of their support! Mobed Mehraban formally inaugurated the Zoroastrian Centre in 2005, on the occasion of the Eight World Zoroastrian Congress, hosted by the ZTFE with the patronage of the Zartoshty Brothers and their families. Their munificent donations to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, has been acknowledged and honoured by them with the inclusion of the names of the Zartoshty Brothers on the Donor Board displayed in the foyer – entrance of the SOAS building. It was their endowment, together with the £1 million bequest from the MHBKHF Trust Funds connected to the late Professor Emeritus Mary Boyce, which created “the Zartoshty Professorship” in Zoroastrianism in the Department of the Study of Religions, SOAS. This has ensured the continuity of the advancement of the study and understanding of Zoroastrianism at SOAS in perpetuity. The Zartoshty Brothers inspired the ZTFE to core fund “The Everlasting Flame: Zoroastrianism in History and Imagination” exhibition in 2013 at SOAS and sponsoring the exhibition catalogue dedicated to their memory.
The B. D. Petit Parsee General Hospital, Mumbai was very close to the hearts of the Zartoshty Brothers. The Petit family had donated large sums of money to ameliorate the Zoroastrians of Iran in the 19th century. The Zartoshty Brothers had funded the building of a wing and also donated large sums towards the hospital. Their generosity has been the catalyst for our Association to establish, “ZTFE Friends of B. D. Parsee General Hospital”.
May the Zartoshty Brothers continue to bless us from their heavenly abode in Garothman Behesht. May the fravashis of Mobed Faridoon and Mobed Mehraban always come to our assistance whenever they are invoked! Amen.
Message from Homa Zartoshty
I am always very happy to read about the activities conducted by the ZTFE. My family and I are even more happy to note that you always remember my late father and my late uncle in whatever you do and acknowledge their memory. We send you our congratulations that you have undertaken a project to care for the elderly members of our community. You have our best wishes and support. God bless you and we remind you to always keep our Zoroastrians from Iran and from India completely united.

Dear ZTFE members and well-wishers
Our Government is constantly striving to coin solutions regarding the care of its senior citizens. In this respect, the senior citizens of the Zoroastrian community face the same worries as the rest of the population in our country on how best to cope with life in their twilight years, particularly after losing their life partner and soul mate. Even the most active and creative of minds is no sure defence against the universal human condition of loneliness, which we are informed affects one third of over 75s in the United Kingdom. It is against this intensely worrying social cry of our time that the ZTFE Managing Committee and Trustees unanimously agreed at their meeting on Tuesday 5th November 2013 to rise to the challenge of establishing the first Zoroastrian Senior Citizens Shelter Home in the UK.
It is the intension of the ZTFE to establish this Zoroastrian Senior Citizens Residential Home in the near vicinity of the Zoroastrian Centre, which already provides a focal point for religious, cultural and social activities to the Zoroastrian community. The Zoroastrian Senior Citizens Residential Home will be a residential place for isolated and lonely Zoroastrian Senior Citizens to live together under one roof. ZTFE is aware that as we get older, it is often the case that individuals yearn to return to their roots. The idea behind establishing the Zoroastrian Senior Citizens Home is for the ZTFE to provide a friendly cultural and social environment for our Zoroastrian senior citizens. The ZTFE Senior Citizens Residential Home would be a self contained one bedroom flat. Furthermore, there will be facilities for communal socialising and dining. There will also be a caretaker 24/7, and staff for ancillary work including cleaning, launderette, and preparing communal meals.
ZTFE has deliberately opted not to establish a care home for Zoroastrian Senior Citizens, because it is currently not equipped, either financially or professionally to undertake a project of such magnitude. However, once the ZTFE has established and successfully operated a Zoroastrian Senior Citizens Residential Home, then in the future its confidence would grow to possibly undertake establishing a Zoroastrian Senior Citizens Care Home.
The Zoroastrian Senior Citizens Shelter Home will be a boon for those Zoroastrian senior citizens who may become lonely in their twilight years, especially after the loss of their soul mate, thus becoming isolated and feel frightened of life. ZTFE is of the belief that our Zoroastrian senior citizens residing together in our shelter home with fellow Zoroastrians would prevent the residents from contracting illnesses associated with depression leading to dementia, thus avoiding the need for specialised care, which at present is a great financial burden to the State.
