Softening Cracked Heels through Ayurveda Herbal RemediesBy Dr. Savitha Suri, Ayurvedic PhysicianCracked heels are one of the most common beauty prob-lems caused by drying of skin. The desire to wear attrac-tive foot wear will remain just that with cracked heels. Cracked heels are also referred to as heel fissures. When these fissures are deep they may bleed and become pain-ful. Some times they may also get infected.

Ayurveda classifies cracked heels under “kshudra rogas” (common diseases without much complications) and explains the causes and remedies for cracked heels.

Cracks or fissures usually appear on outer edges of heels when the skin on these parts is dry and thick.

What causes cracked heels?

According to ayurveda the cracked heel is caused by vitiation of Vata. Due to vitiation of vata the skin becomes dry, rough and fissured.

• Walking bare foot for long distances vitiates vata causing cracked heels.

• Dry and cold weather increases vata in body and may cause cracks on the heels. The same weather condi-tions worsen the already present cracks or fissures on heels.

• Usually the process of sweating keeps our skin moist and soft. Absence of or inactive sweat glands cause dryness of skin. Vitiated vata dries up sweat glands.

• People who have dry skin tend to develop cracked heels easily.

• Continued pressure on feet causes cracking of skin on heels. This may be due to prolonged standing or over weight.

• Thin soled shoes, open backed shoes, heel spurs, surgery of lower extremities, flat feet, high-arched feet and diseases like psoriasis, eczema, etc. also cause fissured heels.

Self care for cracked heels

• Avoid thin soled shoes or footwear and open backed shoes.

• Use pumice stone bars to remove thick, dead skin of heels.

• Apply medicated herbal balm which keeps the skin of

heels soft and closes fissures.

• Liberal application of herbal moisturizing lotion keeps your feet soft and attractive.

• The skin of feet lacks oil glands. Hence apply herbal moisturizing lotion before going to bed and put on cotton socks. This tip helps to maintain the softness of skin of heels.

• Reduce body weight and do not stand for a long time.

• Never cut hard edges of fissures with blade, scissors or razor.

• Diabetic patients should immediately consult their physician if the fissures persist for a long time and show color changes.

• A regular foot bath and foot massage helps to keep the skin on heals healthy and soft.

Ice Cream Can Save Your SalesBy Colleen Francis, Sales ProfessionalThe other day my sister-in-law told me that I “had to eat ice cream with her because I was at risk of osteoporo-sis” and facing that kind of nutritional research I had no choice but to cave in. I think it’s going to be a long, fat summer.

As much as I enjoyed the ice cream I got to thinking, why do we need to find excuses or reasons to do what we really love to do? And on the flip side, do we also justify NOT doing what we know we need to do, but don’t want to do?

I think the answer to this second question is the reason why so many sales people fail. During the summer many sales people make the excuse that “no one is working” as the reason why they too stop making calls and seeing customers. Don’t fall into this trap. People are working, sales are being made, quotas are being hit.

For example in my business in the speaking commu-nity July and August are often sited as speakers as the “worst months” many speakers take the summer off

because they say there is “no business”. Yet at Engage, July and August are often our best months of the year. And I openly joke with my speaking colleagues that we do well because none of my competition is working!

Seriously. I also know this to be true in many of your markets. The best time to sell is when your competition is resting. Take action instead of looking for justifica-tions. This summer take a no excuses approach. Recon-nect with your plan, make the calls, send your thank you letter, ask for referrals. Complete all the sales tasks on your action list and then add more.

Don’t waste time and money making excuses or trying to justify why you didn’t do the work. Just do the work! You will profit from it.

Sell Your Friends—with RecognitionBy Erin Hallmark, Zrii Communications ManagerHow many of you have a friend who knows a specialty? The specialty could be resume writing, photography, legal advice, cake decorating, career advice, and so on. Most likely we have all taken a turn asking this friend for a favor (or maybe two or three). After the favor is completed, sometimes friends sell each other out after they get what they want, possibly destroying friendship and harboring grudges. Selling your friends for personal gain is not the answer to making a return on your friend-ship. If you haven’t already, try a new approach to focus outward and edify them in what they do—sell them with recognition!

We’ve all heard the importance of edification. But edifi-cation goes a long way, and many of us don’t take a little bit of extra time to thank our friends for their services—in any capacity. Thanks to the high popularity of social media, it’s easy and mostly effortless to promote just how amazing your friends really are.

How does this concept relate to network marketing? Simple. You’re being mentored by a leader. You’ve sought advice from your upline. You’ve worked with someone to make a meeting happen. A message of thanks not only shows your gratitude, but it also makes your friend more inclined to help you in the future. Gratitude also increas-es self esteem, your personal brand image, and more.

Let’s see this idea in action. James is a brand new Zrii IE who just held his first meeting with his upline, Brittany and Spencer. Now, he could just thank them privately and leave it at that, but why doesn’t he take it one step further? James has a Facebook account and posts on his wall, “Just held my first Zrii meeting. Thanks to Brittany and Spencer for their help! They are amazing mentors.” With that small note, James has just edified Brittany and Spencer. It only took 30 seconds for James to write his message, but the effect will be worth a whole lot more. Was that a difficult task for James? Absolutely not.

So the next time you have a friend who lends you a hand, promote it! There’s nothing wrong with selling your friends if it’s for the right reasons. And what goes around—comes around. You never know who will make your day by selling one of your talents and edifying you next!

at the Chopra Center convinces us that combining holistic approaches with effective medical care leads to the best outcome with reduced side effects. Serious illness chal-lenges people at physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual levels; therefore, support in each of these dimen-sions of life can be valuable. These are my top five sugges-tions for people undergoing cancer treatment:

1. Learn and practice a meditation technique that quiets the mind.

2. Listen to guided meditations and creative healing visu-alizations that awaken the healing response. Choose imagery that enhances peace rather than conflict in your body and mind. You may want to begin by listen-ing to some of the guided meditation podcasts in our online library. [http://www.chopra.com/namasteinfo]

3. Eat healthy foods, including a wide range of fresh and colorful fruits and vegetables.

4. Practice yoga and breathing exercises on a daily basis. Keep energy circulating throughout your body.

5. Consider the use of detoxifying and immune supportive herbs. At the Chopra Center, we use ashwagandha, shatavari, guduchi, and amla*, based both upon traditional ayurvedic principles and scientific studies. Before taking any nutritional supplements, first talk with your health provider.

With love,

David
