Page 2: Zoo To You

Here we are learning how to determine the gender of a turtle.

The belly of the male is concave (or flat) and the belly of a female is convex (or rounder).

The Red-Eared Slider Turtle and Malayan Box Turtle

Students listened to apresentation about the Red-

EaredSlider Turtle and the Malayan

BoxTurtle. Evidently, the Red-Eared

Slider Turtle used to be a more common pet until the

Box Turtle was introduced to Asia. The Red-Eared Slider Turtle is more aggressive and grows to be larger in size, so the Box Turtle is a more logical choice for a

household pet.

Tortoises vs. Turtles

We looked at the legs of these two

reptiles. Tortoises legs are designed for walking and Turtle’s legs are

designed for swimming. Most turtles only leave the water to lay

their eggs.

The African Ball Python

We learned that the African Ball Python is NOT venemous.

Instead, it coils itself tightly around

its prey so they cannot breathe.
