What is Language?

Language is the system that consists of the development, acquisition, maintenance, and use of complex systems of communication, particularly the human ability to do so (Crowley M,2004).

What is Practice?

Refers to repeated exercise in or performance of an activity or skill so as to acquire or maintain proficiency in it.

What is Language Practice?

Language practice is the practice of working with language. People working with language practitioners usually work in translation, interpreting, text-editing, copywriting, and language planning and language management.

What is a translation?

Is the process of translating words or text from one language into another language? Translator’s goal is to have people read the translation text as if it were the original writing material. Hence they must properly translate and be read the original language fluently.

Types of translation

Literary translation- is to convert journal articles, books, poetry, and short stories from one language into another language. They work to keep the style, tone, and meaning of authors work (Bock Z, 1998).

Compiler- is a translation in which is used to convert programs in a high-level language to low-level language. It translates the entire program and also reports the errors in source program encountered during the translation.

Interpreter- is the translation used to convert program in a high-level language to low-level language. The interpreter translates line by line and reports the error once it encountered during the translation process.

What is interpreting?

Is the process of interpreting information from one spoken language into another language and in some cases is to translate spoken language into sign language (Dyers C, 1996)? The goal of interpreting is to have people hear the interpretation as if it were the original language (Richard j, 1990).

Types of interpretation

Simultaneous interpretation- it conveys the message of the spoken or signed message into another language at the same time someone is speaking or signing. It must be familiar with the subject matter and maintain a high level of concentration to convey the message accurately and completely.

Consecutive translation- it is to convey the speakers or signed message in another language after they have stopped to allow for the interpretation. Note taking is the essential part of the consecutive translation.

Sight translation interpreters- it provides a translation of a written document directly into spoken languages, for immediate understanding, but not for the purpose of producing written translated document.

Duties of translating and interpreting

Convey concepts in the source language to equivalent concepts in the target language.

Compile information and technical terms into glossaries and terminology databases to be used in their oral renditions and translation.

Speak read and write fluently in at least two languages, one of which is usually English.

Relay the style and tone of the original language. Render spoken messages accurately, quickly, and clearly. Apply their cultural knowledge to render an accurate and meaningful interpretation

or translation of the original message.

Conclusion

Language is the prominent element that magnetizes human being around the world through communication verbal or non-verbal, written or signed.
