If you have been tucking away special objects for years but aren’t sure exactly what to do with them, Kathryn Cerasoli can help you make those objects shine. Kathryn helps students to experiment with different techniques and ideas to make a unique and individualistic piece of usable art. Kathryn will be offering both a Mosaics and Collage class at the Person Senior Wing this spring. Kathryn is a gifted instructor and has been teaching art with Recre-ation and Park for more than 20 years. Kathryn’s artistic range is broad. She has a niche for using odds and ends to create three-

dimensional art as well as a passion for painting with acrylic and watercolors, both small and large. She paints abstract and super realis-tic fruit, veggie, other odds and ends and an occasional landscape. Besides painting pictures she has done professional murals for com-mercial and residential projects. Don’t let those saved objects stay tucked away in your closet any longer! Come learn how to make a beautiful piece of art for your home.

Mosaics with Kathryn Thurs, 4/3-5/1 - 10am-12:00pm, Person Senior Wing Fee: $80 (S.R. Resident $70) #70589

Instructor Spotlight

Welcoming Kathryn Cerasoli to the Person Senior Wing

Studies show on-going Yoga practice can lead to a moderate reduction in a pre-hypertensive state. As Dr. Debbie Cohen from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia summarizes, “With a reduction of 4 to 5mm Hg, you could really have an impact on their cardiovascular-disease risk. I think you should obviously use yoga as an adjunct to other lifestyle modifications, such as

weight loss. But with yoga, you could, perhaps, avoid the need for medication.”

We thought it would be fun to put this science to the test. Join us at the Person Senior Wing on March 5th and June 4th. Medical staff from Golden Liv-ing Center will be available to take your blood pressure before “Yoga with Donna” and a sec-ond time after class. We think you may be pleasantly surprised with the results – there is noth-ing like immediate results to keep us motivated to exercise!

If you would like to see what Yoga can do for you, give it a try! The following Yoga pro-grams are drop-in.

Yoga with Donna, Person Senior Wing – M-Th 11:30a-12:30p, $7

Chair Yoga, Bennett Valley Senior Center – Fri, 9a-10a, $4

Laughter Yoga, Bennett Valley Senior Center, 2nd Wed of the month, 10:30a-11:30a, $2

Did you know one of the many benefits of Yoga is a reduction in blood pressure?

Spring is here and Howarth Park’s train, the C.P. Huntington Engine #74, is rounding the track with passenger cars of happy families once again. The engine has been a marquee attraction in Santa Rosa for 44 years. If you’ve been around Santa Rosa long enough, you might remember the original miniature steam engine that was estab-lished by “Pop” Lampson in the 1950s. In 1969, the original train was replaced by Engine #74 and the first of what would turn out to be hundreds of thou-sands, if not millions, of passengers hopped on board. This past year alone, the C.P. Huntington has made roughly 2,500 laps around the track providing rides for 50,000 passengers.

While Engine #74 is still hard at work making children smile and laugh, the reality of its age is frequent break downs and rising maintenance costs. If you visit the park on a regular basis, odds are that you have seen the red “NOT OPEN” sign posted next to the train’s picture. Although Howarth Park has a number of other wonderful at-tractions, there is no denying that the park is just not the same when the train isn’t running. Unfortunately, keeping the training running is becoming in-creasingly difficult. Locating parts and or kits to rebuild components can be time consuming and often means the train is out of service for even longer periods of time. Finally, neither of the passenger cars meets compliance with

the Americans with Disabilities Act which means some park patrons may not currently have access to the train.Howarth Park will need a new train in the near future. Fortunately, the Santa Rosa Parks Foundation, a recently founded non-profit organization, is actively fundraising for a new train en-gine and a passenger car that is compli-ant with the Americans with Disabili-ties Act. You may remember seeing the Santa Rosa Parks Foundation at our 3rd Annual Crab Feed, where they hosted the bar as a fundraiser! If you would like to make a donation or get involved in the efforts of the Santa Rosa Parks Foundation, please visitwww.srparksfoundation.com.

Transportation is pressing issue for our 50+ community. The Senior Centers receive countless questions regarding transportation concerns. Each inquiry is complex, as each individual’s situation is unique. We have struggled to provide people with the best answers; until now! We are excited to announce, that with funding from the New Freedom grant from the Federal Transportation

Administration (FTA), Santa Rosa Transit staff brought together key Sonoma County Organizations to create a robust One-Call, One-Click transportation resource “Sonoma Access.” This new resource is a hub of transportation information and referral center available to help you get where you need to go. “Sonoma Access” brings together information on all of the public, private and non-profit transportation options available in Sonoma County.

If you or a loved one is struggling with the transition from driving, this resource can help you get where you want to go. Visit Sonoma Access on the web at www.sonomaaccess.org or by calling 211.
