Who Is Zeal? We are a leading New Zealand youth organisation full of passionate, creative misfits who believe that every young kiwi is creative. We dedicate our lives to helping young people discover and live into their infinite value and great worth. We do this through our centres in Wellington, West Auckland, Hamilton, the Hawkes Bay, Taranaki and Kapiti, where we see over 50,000 young people each year; and online, where we engage with a further 500,000. Our day-to-day work includes events, programmes, afternoon hangs and industry-standard training in creative disciplines such as barista, photography, event management, sound and lighting, art, and social marketing. What Is The Zeal Internship? The Zeal Internship is a unique opportunity for young change-makers to learn and experience youth development the Zeal way over a life-changing two years of work and study. Interns will join the Zeal staff family, work their ass off, and see the lives of young people transformed. They’ll also achieve a New Zealand Diploma in Youth Work through Praxis and be well on their way toward a career of significance in strenghs-based youth development.

Who Should Apply? Applicants must be 19 or over, passionate about young people, high energy, hard working, a healthy level of self awareness and have the ability to empathise and connect with others. It also helps if you have a full drivers license.

What Will I Do? A mixture of:

• Detached and centre based youth work. • Events. • Programmes. • One to one mentoring. • General team and office work.

What Training Will I Get? Both Zeal and Praxis adhere to a strength-based, holistic youth development approach. As a part of your Intership you’ll learn this through:

• Weekly work experience and study. • Four block courses with Praxis per year • Zeal youth work training workshops • Two Zeal staff hui per year • Supervision and mentoring by a senior Zeal staff member

In successfully completing the Zeal Internship you will receive a New Zealand Diploma in Youth Work, a Zeal Certificate of Completion, and a written reference from Zeal.

How Much Does It Cost? Zeal covers the work placement costs for the Zeal Internship. Each applicant is required to pay the course fees and any other associated costs for Praxis. Praxis is a NZQA registered provider and successful applicants may be eligible for student allowance and loan through StudyLink. Please see www.praxis.org.nz for more information.

Youth & Community Studies. • An interest in learning a bi-cultural approach to youth work. • An outgoing personality with a positive attitude. • A high level of integrity and honesty. • A non-judgemental perspective and a high level of empathy. • A healthy level of self awareness and commitment to your own

development • A teachable mindset • Perserverence that sees you through the tough seasons

Skills

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to different types of people.

• High levels of self management and care • Good english communication skills, both orally and written. • Competency in a creative discipline (music, creative arts etc). • Ability to read and interpret educational materials. • Able to work independently as well as with a team. • Proactive and responsive, with organizational skills, attention to

detail, time management and multi-tasking abilities. • Ability to take direction and listen to instruction. • Past experience of working with young people and a full drivers

license is advantageous.
