Design Zaidas designs come from Manysources - the one in this picture isby Viola Shackleton, a student atthe Royal College of Needleworkin London, she visited us in early2012 to study Kashmiriembroideries. The design ispassed onto our very talenteddesign team A cartoon is made of the designin actual finished size. This isthen transferred using powderedink onto the background fabric bya local designer in Srinagar. 5. Materials Locally sourced wool is dyedto Zaidas specifications usingnatural dyes where possible.No AZO dyes or harmful dyesare used in the dying process. We source unbleached cottonfor the background tostitching and the cottonbacking fabric from NorthernIndia. 6. Production The raw materials and printedbackground designs arepassed on to our stitcherswho, working in their ownhomes or in small groupgatherings, creating the bestchainstitch rugs and cushionsin the world. 7. Finishing The worked fabric is returnedto Srinagar where the backingfabric, labels and buttons orzips are applied. All items are packed inrecycled sacking for shipping. 8.
