Revelation Global makes apps for market researchers who conduct online qualitative studies.

our ceo had four major design goals based on client feedback about must-have features and a strategy to stay ahead of the competition.

a more social experience for study participants•

a browsing experience that encourage participants to •

view other people’s responses

a visual design light enough to allow client to white-label •

the product with their own branding

a full-featured mobile app for use in “mobile only” studies•

We needed to offer mobile as a stand alone product, so we started there and translated the core interactions and visual style over to the web app.

I worked closely with 2 in-house developers and a development agency on the mobile web and ios from initial concept to production and release. Deliverables included wireframes, userflows, UI style guides, and custom icons.

the mobile and web apps look and feel light years ahead of competitor offerings. the apps are scheduled to be released in april.

Activities

1. Video stimulus

5. If user has done any work, tapping Submit response will call the success toast message and are taken back to the To-Do’s list.

6. Users can manually save drafts to close out the activity and save their work. They get a toast message for that as well and are taken back to the To-Do’s list.

7. If users lose their connection they get this toast message so they know they can keep working. The app must save the content locally and upload it to the server once the connection is reestablished.

8. Responses that include a large video or photo upload or situation that a�ect the devices data connection may cause responses to not be sent to the server instantly. In this case, the submitted activity takes a “Pending” label but goes into Completed because it’s done as far as the user is concerned.

9. In completed responses, the stimuli are removed, but the descriptions added to collectors and any content added to the collector by the user remains.

10. Users can go back to completed responses and respond to comments by other users if the activity is shared or a discussion activity. Users can also like other people’s responses by tapping the like icon. Once tapped it goes into the pressed state.

11. Users can submit a completely blank response, but they get a warning modal.

12. If users tap “Back” and go back to the To-Do’s list, the app saves their draft

13. Activities that do not have collectors - for example, an activity that only has video or text messages - is treated like an activity that has been completed.

1. Upon opening the app, users sign in using the temporary password and the email address from their email invite. If they use the wrong email or password they get error messages.

2. Users hit “Back” to return to the Sign-in screen and get sign-out of the system.

3. Users must create a new password. If they hit Sign-up without doing so, they get the “Passwords must be at least 6 characters” error message. If they don’t type in the password correctly in both �elds they get “Passwords do not match” toast.

4. Users can upload an avatar image from their gallery or snap a picture on the spot. This is not required.

5. Noti�cations default to “Send me push noti�cations.”

6. Timezone defaults to system timezone, but users can change it. Users must choose a timezone.

7. Users taps on this section and go to the Terms of Service page. If they try to go straight to Sign-up, they get the “Please agree to Terms of Service and Privacy Policy” error message

8. Users tap back to hit Sign-up

9. After tapping Sign-up button users are taken to the To-Do’s screen where the onboarding modal appears to introduce the To-do’s screen

10. If user is o�ine, they get the “Connection not found. Please try again later.” error toast.

Navigating the Feed

1. Users can filter Feed by activity or view responses from all activities in the study

2. Users can view their own responses...

3. Or view everyone’s responses

4. Users go an individual response by tapping the tile

5. The feed for a user individual for a particular activity lists the activity name at the top

6. The feed for all activities has no label at the top. Activity names are appended to each tile.

7. A friend’s response includes the user’s avatar and...

8. Allows you to comment on their response. Post button becomes active once user enter text into field.

9. If users get to the end of feed, they get this toast.

*Empty submitted responses don’t enter the feed until user edits their response, adds content and re-submits.

“Fit for Flight” is Red Bull’s employee wellness online community. Its mission is to make getting fit fun and challenging for employees.

I was sub-contracted to envision an iteration of the website that incorporated an easy and fast way to challenge oneself and other staff and keep track of ranking and accomplishments in a leaderboard.

I created wireframes for frequent users, new users, challenge creation and the leaderboard.

I also created a user flow diagram to show how employees would move through the experience focusing on the most important use: using challenges to compete for ranking and medals.

Sovran Self Storage, Inc. has a team of analysts who pore over large unwieldy spreadsheets all day in order to make pricing recommendations on storage units.

they needed a rich client application that could bring all of that information together so they could search, sort, and analyze the data in ways that helped them make mission-critical pricing decisions faster.

I was sub-contracted by 365media, the software company responsible for building the application, to organize and refine the user interface before it went to the development phase.

to get a handle on the situation I sat down with the product team to develop user stories, personas, and lean hypotheses before I began designing the interface.

Caseworx

Caseworx is a startup that wants to build the go-to case studies portal for students.

I designed the initial wireframes in the first iteration of caseworx’s lean product development process. the project owner had long list of features that needed to be incorporated into the interface that were not prioritized based on user needs.

I determined which features comprised the must-haves by meeting with the project owner and built the interface around them.

since most of the features already existed in many successful platforms, I adapted those design patterns for the interface in order to get the interface into the hands of potential customers as soon as possible.

Thindish is a startup devoted to helping employees find and order healthy meals close to their offices.

I was asked to envision an ios app for the service that had as easy way to buy selected meals and display employee ranks using no more than 3 screens.

I created an interface where users could swipe though meal choices and drag and drop them into their weekly meal plan. User receive points for how many healthy meals they eat during the week and move up in rank on a leader board.

I met a doctor who is creating a mobile application that helps emergency room doctors administer ultrasound-guided anesthesia.

they had an idea, a use case, a developer, and a lot of dry content and pictures. I helped them figure out the flow of the content and I sketched a way for doctors to add bookmarks considering they work in a fast-paced environment. they need to be one tap away from the content they need in the emergency room.

At Adaptive Path’s UX Intensive, four days interaction design work resulted in a tablet application for guests of a full-service boutique hotel.

We spent one day distilling the information we had gathered during the workshop and developed design principles for the product. the application and the was supposed to be as helpful and as knowledgeable about the user’s needs and room service as a good concierge in a small exclusive hotel.

Student work - Adaptive Path - UX Intensive

I sketched an interface that let users control and customize their hotel stay - everything from lighting and room temperature to scheduling spa treatments and meals.

the “concierge” part of the service would develop over time as the system tracked the user’s in-room purchases and habits. eventually the user would return to the hotel to find their room and service preferences preset to their liking as they enter the room.
