A huge new entertainment and commercial proj-ect, considered the most

important tourism and leisure project in the country, is be-ing built in the Iraqi capital of

Baghdad – and Zamperla is at the heart of a major part of the development, having designed the amusement park, Sindbad Land, and been contracted to supply all the rides for it too.

Situated in the heart of Baghdad, near the Green Zone, the city’s newest tourism and leisure proj-

ect will cover a total area of 400,000 sq. m, of which 200,000 sq. m is an ar-tificial lake. The amusement park ele-ment will cover 60,000 sq. m and will be accompanied by a water park, ma-rina club, marina walk featuring shops and restaurants, a 4-star hotel and a shopping mall. The entrance to the

park will be developed as a commer-cial area incorporating around 30 retail outlets, restaurants and cinemas. The project is being developed by an Iraqi group which has been working with Zamperla and our Middle East office for the past two years to develop the concept and ideas for the park. Indeed, Zamperla was delighted to be awarded the con-tract to carry out the complete design of the amusement park from concept mas-terplan to the final working drawings of all elements, including the commercial and entertainment area at the park en-trance. Members of our Art Department and a group of architects were brought together to produce the layout for the park and the necessary infrastructure. Additionally, Zamperla is responsible for supplying all the rides to the park, which has been designed with two main areas – a family and children’s area and a teenage area. The former will fea-ture a wide selection of the company’s most popular and successful family and children’s attractions, such as a Rock-ing Tug, Jump Around, Convoy, Family Swinger, Happy Swing, Jumping Tower and various other rides. The teenage zone will incorporate a selection of the best thrill rides Zamperla has to of-

fer, such as a Disk’O Coaster, Air Race, Twister Coaster and Vertical Swing. The amusement park is scheduled to open in September 2011 and comment-ing on the project and the work with Zamperla, a spokesman for the devel-opers said: “We started our relation-ship with Zamperla two years ago and we now consider them not as a supplier or contractor but as a partner in our project. We are confident that with the support of Zamperla we will be able to create a unique entertainment destina-tion with an international standard and quality.”

Having installed numer-ous rides throughout the Middle East in the past,

Zamperla is maintaining its strong

ties with the region with on-going projects involving the installa-tion of a wide range attractions.

Bigger and higher Vertical Swing thrills Dream Park guests.

Custom built rides for Fun City

Dream Park in Cairo, Egypt, is enjoying great success with its newly installed, 52m. high Vertical Swing, which fea-tures the largest passenger capacity of this Zamperla ride as well as being the highest example produced to date. Pro-viding a thrilling experience and a spec-tacular view of the surrounding midway, the new ride is proving to be hugely suc-cessful at Dream Park, much to the de-light of the management. “We are very pleased with the results we have seen from the Vertical Swing,”

said Dr. Samir Moghazi, the park’s gen-eral manager. “Since we opened the ride to the public in September 2010, the customer feedback has been very posi-tive and with the current demand for the ride we are confident that it can pay back in less than two years. ”And here at Zamperla we have no doubt about Dr. Moghazi’s comments, having seen the ticket sales records of the Vertical Swing installed at Coney Island in the US, which were also out-standing.

Zamperla’s Art Department has created a new theme for two rides ordered by the Middle East based Fun City chain of FECs, based on the Fun City logo. The entertainment venues are part of the Landmark Group and make up one of the leading FEC brands in the region. A long-standing, key customer of Zamperla ME, the Fun City locations are now under new management which has instigated an ag-gressive development plan for a number

of indoor and outdoor projects. Two new, custom designed themes were created by Zamperla’s creative

minds for use on two best-selling rides chosen by Fun City, a Jump Around and a Happy Swing.

Middle East success continues for Zamperla.

News round-up

Zamperla ME recently signed a new contract with the Al Hokair Group for the supply of a selection of family and kiddie rides for the group’s various loca-tions in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

A new association has been creat-ed between Zamperla ME and the Al Othaim Group of Saudi Arabia in relation the latter’s FEC brand Safori Land. The first order placed by the group was for a Convoy Hummer, two Jump Around rides and a Disk’O 24.

During the past few years the Aswad Group of Saudi Arabia has developed a number of successful FECs, both in Saudi and the Leb-anon, all in collaboration with Zamperla ME. In December 2010 a further order was completed which will see Zamperla supply all the rides for the Aswad Group’s new FEC in Hafer Al-Batin in Saudi.

Get ready to SCREAM!

Following the overwhelm-ing success of the first phase of the new-look Co-

ney Island in the US, the Zamper-la team is now working on phase

2 of the project that will see the opening of a new high thrill, high adrenaline area called Scream Zone. Dare you venture inside?

2010 was the year that saw the rein-carnation of the world famous Coney Is-land amusement park in New York, and the 100 day time scale in which a team brought together by Zamperla trans-formed what was a crumbling and dilap-idated venue back into a superb Luna Park has already become a key part of this world famous landmark’s history. The first season in its new guise was a big success for many reasons. The new Luna Park attracted over 400,000 visi-tors, more than in any summer since the Steeplechase Park closed in 1964, and those visitors took more than 1.7 million rides on the various attractions, all of which were supplied by Zamperla. Additionally, over 14 million people vis-ited Coney Island’s beach and board-walk – almost four times as many as in 2009. And all the neighbouring busi-nesses reaped the benefits of this suc-cess with noticeable growth in revenues. The mayor of New York, Mayor Bloom-berg, was among those delighted with the success of the first season, saying:

Indeed it is! April 19th, 2011, will see the opening of the new Scream Zone featuring four attractions sure to thrill also the most intrepid riders. The attrac-tions on offer will include a Volare ‘flying’ roller coast-er, called Soaring Eagle; a horse themed Moto Coast-er named the Steeplechase coaster, that will launch passengers from 0 to 65 km/h; and two rides that will provide air born thrills - a mind blowing Turbo Force and a breathtaking Sling Shot.“If you think this summer was good, just wait, be-cause you ain’t seen noth-ing yet,” said council mem-ber Domenic M. Recchia, Jr. after last year’s season.

“The inaugural season of Luna Park has been an over-whelming success, helping to trigger the most active summer in Coney Island in more than four decades. Coney Island is back and this is just the beginning.
