##16 - 17/10/19 YWPS Newsletter Greetings From the Principal Welcome back everyone! It’s been lovely to see all our students return, refreshed and ready to go for our final term for 2019. Is it my imagination or have some of the children suddenly shot up a few centimetres? Or I must have shrunk over my holiday? It is great to be back and starting Term 4. At this time in the school year, we focus on final learning outcomes and completing work required to finishing off this year with preparation for the coming year. For our year 6s, it is an especially important time as they finish off their last term at primary school in readiness to make the final transition to secondary school. We know that our year 6 students are well prepared and will feel confident for the challenges that lie ahead. We would like to wish all our students the best for finishing off a fantastic term 4 and end of year. You may have noticed that our shade sail in the prep playground has been replaced and looks shiny and new. Just in time for the sunshine and the hot weather which will soon be upon us. Remember that until April all students wear SunSmart hats and if they do not have a hat then they are restricted to specific play spaces within the school. Hats can be purchased through the Office. Student achievement – Tournament of Minds TOM offers teams of students the opportunity to solve authentic, open-ended challenges that foster creative, divergent thinking whilst developing collaborative enterprise, excellence and teamwork. Challenges are set in the following disciplines... The Arts, Language Literature, Social Sciences and STEM. Our Social Sciences team have made it to the international finals, which will be in Hobart next weekend. What a sensational achievement for this creative team of students! Teachers David and Grace will be taking the group to Hobart for the competition, with some parents joining them there. To support the team, we will be having a fundraising Casual Clothes Day TOMORROW. Please bring a gold coin donation and support our school in the TOM competition. Greetings From the PrincipalWelcome back everyone!

It’s been lovely to see all our students return, refreshed and ready to go for our final term for 2019. Is it my imagination or have some of the children suddenly shot up a few centimetres? Or I must have shrunk over my holiday?

2020 Planning

I am currently finalising enrolment numbers for 2020, which has a direct impact on how many classes, teachers and programs we will need and be able to provide for next year.

If you are moving location could you please contact the office to let us know as soon as possible. It is vital that we have accurate student numbers to cater for adequate staffing and programs for the 2020 year and more importantly, secure your child’s school placement for the following year.

Teachers will soon be talking to their children about next year’s classes, and the children will be able to nominate a set of friends that they learn well with. We try to ensure that every child has at least one nominated friend to be with in the grade. Although everyone is passionate about friendship and staff preferences for their child, I am afraid that requests cannot be considered.

The school will structure grades around information we have about each child. If there is a genuine reason for special consideration for placement that the school does not already know about, put this in writing [email protected] and attention to Assistant Principal Sally Emery for children in Year 3-6, and to Assistant Principal Nicole Arnold for children in Prep – Year 2 by Thursday 24th October.

As you can appreciate, it is extremely difficult to meet the requests of all parents. I am asking you to trust in the professional opinion of staff in the placement of your child for 2020.

Uniform Sale

We have been tidying up the office area and have a stack of new uniform items to sell. There will be a pop up uniform shop on Wednesday 23 October from 8.30am in the Middle Area. Vests, jumpers, dresses and more!

3/4 Camp Manyung NewsThe date for returning the parent consent and medical form along with a deposit of $100 has passed. If your child is attending camp please ensure these are returned ASAP.

From The OfficeLost PropertyThe Lost Property bins are spilling over with school uniforms, drink bottles, lunch boxes and non-school clothing items. Please take the time to put names on all the items your children bring to school so that they have a chance of being returned. And, if your child is missing a jacket, T-shirt, headband – anything! - please encourage them to have a proper look through the boxes here. Many items are clearly new, but not named and so they sit here …HatsHats are available for purchase at the school office. It’s best to have your child with you when you buy one to check that it fits

properly, and so that you can observe as they carefully write their name inside and agree to look after it!

A message from the Eco Enthusiasts

Congratulations on a fantastic

Wrapper-Free Day! We had a total of 319 lunchboxes registered on Tuesday, 15 October.

Hopefully wrapper-free lunchboxes are something that we’ll see more regularly and in greater numbers amongst our

students and staff.

Raffle winners and the winning class will be announced at the next assembly.

Thank you to the Eco

Enthusiasts who worked so hard to

organise the event.
