2016-17 was a year of great achievement and satisfaction for the officers and members of our club. We met 100% of the goals set by the Region as ‘performance criteria’. The year was full of positive activities by way of Community Service Projects, Image building for our Movement, Fellowship among members, Extension in membership and so on. Based on the excellent performance, we were adjudged as the Best Y’s Men’s, Y’s Menettes and Y’s Lings Clubs in the Region. Presidents and Secretaries were also adjudged as the best. In addition to the excellence in performance of the club, District Governor Ym.AVM P.K.Kuruvilla VSM of our club bagged the distinguished Award as the Best District Governor in India Area.

We congratulate everyone who brought glory for our club and the Movement, through their tireless efforts.

ACTIVITIES, SO FAR IN 2017-18

LET THE PICTURES SPEAK - A TRAVEL THROUGH CLUB ACTIVITIES UP TO SEPTEMBER 2016 Activities of the club for 2017-18 started with installation of office bearers on 23-06-2017. District Governor, Ym.A.K.Geevarghese was

the chief guest and installing officer. We were so fortunate that we had IP Henry, IT Philips, ISG Nishi and IPRD Kottooran in town, in connection with installation of India Area President. They accepted our invitation to be with us on this joyous occasion and were with us to witness the installation ceremony.

During this meeting, we honoured three of our past members, P.S.Jacob, M.P.Paul and Remani Joseph, who were finding it difficult to come for meetings due to health reasons. We remember their services with gratitude, when they were at the helm of affairs of our club.

As in every year, we had our first Board meeting of the year at the residence of PIP Isaac Palathnkal, in which we discussed our course of action for the year and made specific plans and targets.

So far, we spent Rs.24,000/- on community service projects. (Rs.17,000/- for dialysis for poor patients and Rs.7,000/- for educational assistance to poor students.) In addition to this, we spent Rs.9,500/- for minor projects through District Governor.

Club celebrated Independence Day on 15-8- 2017 at YMCA Boys Home Thrikkakkara, which was funded by our TOF GPF. After Flag hoisting by IPDG P.K.Kuruvilla, Independence Day message was given by our senior member Dr.Rosamma Kuriakose. Before departing, we had breakfast together with the inmates of the Boy’s Home..

Club hosted Prof.K.P.Kuriakose memorial Quiz competition and P.M.Pailypillay Memorial Elocution competition at District level on 10-09-2017. Our senior team with Esa Sebastian and Sam Sebastian won the first prize in Quiz, for the 7th time in succession. Our junior team consisting of Zak Sebastian and Jeslin Jai got the third prize.

On 17-9-17, we celebrated ‘Onam’ at the residence of our senior member IPDG Ym.AVM P.K.Kuruvilla VSM at Alwaye. We had.Sri.N.Jayasankar, Income Tax commissioner as Guest speaker. He spoke on the topic ‘Yoga and Purpose of life’. This was followed by sumptuous vegetarian Onam lunch. During this meeting, Mrs.Elizabeth Kuruvila (93 yrs), mother of P.K.Kuruvilla was honoured.

Apart from these, we had our monthly meetings and board meetings regularly and we are carrying out our responsibilities as true Ys Men, Menettes and Lings.

We continue to maintain our IBC relation with YMCs of Colombo (Area ASP), Hyderabad (CIR) and Chennai Millennium (SIR).

Officers from our club attended all District, Zonal and Regional programmes.

Vincy gets engaged

Y’s Youth Vincy Varghese, the skylark of our Club and daughter of P.K.Varghese and Valsalah Varghese got engaged to Sanjith on 2nd October 2017, at Samudrika, Cochin. Sanjith is son of Mr and Mrs Saji Thomas, Cochin. Almost all members of our club along with their families attended the betrothal ceremony.

Esa Maria Sebastian has been nominated as District Youth Co-ordinator for the year 2017-18. She has shown her merits through bagging many prizes in Elocution, Quiz, etc.

Valsalah Varghese has been nominated as District Menettes Co-ordinator for the year 2017-18. This is in recognition of her all round support and contribution to the Movement

Ym.P.K.Kuruvilla

Ym.AVM P.K.Kuruvilla VSM was adjudged as the Best District Governor in India Area for the year 2016-17. Getting such a recognition from among 45 District Governors in India Area is not a small task.

It is his dedication and commitment to the Movement as well as his highly disciplined and hardworking ways that fetched him this distinction.

Ym.Isaac Palathinkal PIP Ym.Isaac Palathinkal is nominated as Chairperson of Past International President’s club. He will succeed PIP Ym.Benson Wabule in this position on 1st July 2018. He is the first PIP from India to chair PIP club.

Ym.Isaac Palathinkal was International President of Y’s Men International in 2014-15 and is the current ISD for Leadership Training and Organization Development.

B O N V O Y A G E

Y’S Contact wishes B O N V O Y A G E to the members who are going on a 5 day International picnic to Bangkok and Phuket from 28th October to 1st November 2017. This is the 4th International picnic in 7 years. The group tour is arranged by our own member Ym.Baby Thoppil (+919847217942), through his new venture Greenwich Travel and Holidays, Cochin 20. We plan to have a picnic within Kerala within the next 4 months. We expect everyone to join the group and make our fellowship stronger and stronger.

O B I T U A R Y Ym.R.Muralidharan Nair, a senior member of our club passed away on 6th September 2017, after a brief illness. Few months back, he had a stroke. When we visited him, he could not talk. He was then taken to Bangalore by his son and daughter. Murali is survived by his wife Indiradevi, son Mahesh and daughter Malini. Murali is remembered as a soft spoken person loyal to our Movement and its principles. He was an Engineer by profession and had retired from Carborundum Universal, Kalamassery. Y’s Contact expresses the heartfelt condolence from the fraternity to the bereaved family.
