Ms Spicious is Lady Monley’s half sister. They grew up together but things have not been the same since their mother died and left the family rubies to Lady Monley.

The Colonel is a long standing friend of the Monley’s, although rumour is that he has got himself into some difficulty and risks losing his house.

The suspects’ alibisMr Al. E. Bye

Spent the morning gardening for Lord and Lady Monley, but left around lunchtime to do another job. He returned late afternoon to be paid, but when Lord and Lady Monley were not in, he left again.

Ms Sue Spicious

Claims to have not seen Lady Monley or been near the Manor since a dinner party three days ago. She was however seen getting into a car outside the Manor mid afternoon on the day in question. She was later seen at a dinner party 5 miles away at 6:00pm

Colonel Waz N. Tmee

Said he spent the day working in London. His office confirmed he arrived in the morning, but say he left promptly at lunchtime and didn’t return. He was due at a dinner party with Ms Spicious that evening. He arrived at 18:15 out of breath. He said his car had broken down on the way.

Clue 3: What the butler heardLord and Lady Monley’s butler was preparing the dining

room for dinner at the time of the theft. He told police that he heard 10 distinct footsteps coming from the room above before a crash.

If the distance from the door to the safe is 7.5m, how big must each of the steps have been?

Clue 4: Breaking into the safeLord Monley was always forgetting the combination for

the safe, so he had it written down in code. Here is the coded safe combination:
