Page 2-A Thursday, August 19, 2010 HERITAGE NEWSP APERS/WESTERN REGION Historic home tour feaures T he 33rd Annual Ypsilanti Heritage Foundation Historic Home Tour will depart from what has been done in the past. For only the second time, the home tour is leaving Ypsilanti for part of the tour. Featured will be seven locations, including four superb 19th-century properties, three houses and a schoolhouse in Superior Township. Throughout their history , all four have had strong ties to the city of Ypsilanti. A perfect compliment to these properties is a wonder- ful 19th-century home on Ypsilanti’s south side. Also on the tour are the nonprofit Corner Health Center on his- toric North Huron Street and three beautifully designed modern loft apartments above the Spark East offices on Michigan Av enue. The following proper- ties will be featured on this year’s tour: A grand 1892 brick Queen Anne with Romanesque overtones, at 113 Buffalo Street, owned by Stewart Beal and Kathlyn Macker. The recently expanded and restored nonprofit Corner Health Center in an 1890s building at 47 North Huron Street. Three modern loft apart- ments developed by Eric and Karen Maurer in the former Mack and Mack Furniture Building, one of the oldest structures in the city . The lofts are above the Spark East offices at 211-215 West Michigan Av enue. The 1884 Italianate Geer- Miller house, at 8605 West Ann Arbor Road in Superior Township, painstakingly and elegantly brought back to life over the last ten years by Glenn and Jeanine Miller . The 1839 classic brick Esek Pray-Van Bolt house, with prominent Greek Revival details, at 8755 West Ann Arbor Road, steeped in history and one of the old- est dwellings remaining in Superior Township. Owners John and Jane Van Bolt have been superb stewards of this property since 1987. The 1837 “Upright and Wing” McCormick-Williams farmhouse, at 9105 West Ann Arbor Road in Superior Township, owned by Kay and Karl Williams. A barn dat- ing from the 1860s is on the property. The 1880 Geer School, at 9981 West Ann Arbor Road in Superior Township. The school educated students until 1982. The community restored it in the late 1980s, and today it provides a his- tory lesson and a one-room school experience for fourth graders in Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. Tickets for the 2010 Home Tour are $10 in advance and can be purchased at Haab's Restaurant and Salt City Antiques, downtown; Nortons Flowers and Gifts, Washtenaw A venue; Nelson Amos Studio, Depot Town; at Saxtons Garden Center, in downtown Plymouth; Downtown Home and Garden, in Ann Ar bor . Tickets are also being sold at the Superior Township Hall. Tickets are available on the day of the tour for $12 in front of the Ypsilanti Historical Museum on North Huron Street and Haab's Restaurant on Michigan Avenue.
