Small Island Developing States (SIDS)

• 1994 - Global Conference on SIDS held in Barbados set out a specific Programme of Action.

 • January 2005 - Governments and civil society representatives met in Mauritius to evaluate progress and chart a way forward.

• Small Islands Voice (SIV) project and BSP/YOUTH started a

process that has become known as Youth Visioning for Island Living.

What is Youth Visioning?Youth Visioning is:

• Young people envisioning how they would like to see their islands develop and change over the coming decade; and

• Working to implement their proposals and plans on the ground.

Youth Visioning seeks to:

1. build capacity among island youth;

2. give youth a voice in sustainable development matters; and

3. make positive changes at the local and national level.

Youth Visioning is composed of 3 Phases

Phase 1 - PreparatoryBeginning in 2003

• Regional meetings, poetry, essay and art competitions were held to share ideas about the issues that faced SIDS.

• Money in my pocket – Youth employment
