INTRODUCTION

• Youth studies is an interdisciplinary academic field devoted to the study of the development, history, culture, psychology, and politics of youth. The field studies not only specific cultures of young people, but also their relationships, roles and responsibilities throughout the larger societies which they occupy.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

• Youth development overall is physical, social and emotional processes through which young people acquire cognitive , social and emotional skills & abilities required to navigate life. So youth psychology helps a person to optimize these processes with the help of family members, friends and their romantic relationships.

ISSUES AND CHALLENGES

• During adolescence, the youth experiences various changes which often leads to issues with personal identity, sense of self & emotional independence. In an attempt to cope with these challenges they engage in various problems like homicide, suicide, substance use/abuse, delinquency.

YOUTH AND SOCIAL WELL BEING

• The role of youth culture is important in identity development which is influenced either by culture of older generation or by same age group, media, and gender values. It is necessary to inculcate the values of positive youth development so that they can become responsible citizen of a country who can work for social interest & social capital

CONCLUSION

• Addressing the youth at the right time can decrease these problems by facilitating their adoption of healthy behavior. Main purpose of introducing this subject at college level is helping the youth to ensure a healthy transition into adulthood and understanding the role of psychological and social changes in relation to their various experiences.
