It isnt like reading the entire Bible or even New Testament. I would remind us that the Gospels by themselves are nearly half of the New Testament, however, so even if they are only 4 books they still make up a substantial portion of the Bible. But this task is more than just a percentage or sum of pages turned. This goal represents significant time at the feet of the Savior of mankind, both in his sacrificial life AND in his perfect teaching and way of living. 5 Minutes With God – Everyday

THIS WEEK READ DAYS 104-110

When I stop to think about the ‘goal’ that we will achieve at the conclusion of

this devotional book, some people might not be very impressed. If I told someone that

at the end of an entire year we would only have finished reading 4 books of the New

Testament, they might think I had set a very low bar to achieve. “Why even bother with

something so trivial?” they might even ask.

And truly– when the only measure of a task’s worth is how big it is, they might be

right. It isn’t like reading the entire Bible or even New Testament. I would remind us that

the Gospels by themselves are nearly half of the New Testament, however, so even if

they are only 4 books they still make up a substantial portion of the Bible. But this task

is more than just a percentage or sum of pages turned. This goal represents significant

time at the feet of the Savior of mankind, both in his sacrificial life AND in his perfect

teaching and way of living. He showed us what could be done, and in following him we

find out what we can do when we listen and obey. Isn’t that worth pursuing, no matter

how ‘impressive’ the end result might look to the untrained eye?

So make your 5 minutes with God a special time this week. It will change your

life– if you do it everyday. I hope you are blessed as you read!

Hugging to Life

A business executive became depressed. Things were not going well at work, and

he was bringing his problems home with him every night. Every evening he would

eat his dinner in silence, shutting out his wife and five-year old daughter. Then he

would go into the den and read the paper—using the newspaper to wall his family

out of his life.

After several nights of this, his daughter took her hand and pushed the newspaper

down. She then jumped into her father’s lap, wrapped her arms around his neck

and hugged him strongly. The father said abruptly, “Honey, you are hugging me

to death!” “No, Daddy, “ she said, “I’m hugging you to life!”
