CELEBRATING EDUCATION WEEK IN SASKATCHEWANgov.ca - The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed October 20 to 26 as Educa-tion Week. This year’s theme, Supporting and Celebrating Success, highlights the ex-ceptional, and important, work that teachers, parents, caregivers, leaders and support staff do to support the success of Saskatchewan students. “We know that there is more diversity in the classroom than ever before, and that means success can look different for each student,” Education Minister Don Morgan said. “By using a Student First approach, we can individualize and personalize the expe-rience for each individual student by name, by strength and by need. Then by celebrating their achievements, we can help to inspire confidence and encourage lifelong learning
and success.” Each year, Education Week is proclaimed to highlight the achievements of Saskatche-wan students and commend the dedication of teachers and staff. This week is celebrated through various events and public activities in schools throughout the province. The theme Supporting and Celebrating Success encourages those in the sector to share best practices and examples of great work not only within their schools and com-munities, but across the province. “We know that there are pockets of ex-cellence and lots of great work happening around the province and we need to shine a spotlight on this work,” Morgan said. “Today we are proud to share a few of these examples, and celebrate these successes as a sector.” To view success stories please visit http://www.education.gov.sk.ca/student-first.

THE 2.99 SPECIAL We went to breakfast at a restaurant where the
‘seniors’ special’ was two eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for $2.99.
‘Sounds good,’ my wife said. ‘But I don’t want the eggs..’
‘Then, I’ll have to charge you $3.49 because you’re ordering a la carte,’ the waitress warned her.
‘You mean I’d have to pay for not taking the eggs?’ my wife asked incredulously.
‘YES!’ stated the waitress.. ‘I’ll take the special then,’ my wife said..
‘How do you want your eggs?’ the waitress asked.
‘Raw and in the shell,’ my wife replied. She took the two eggs home and baked a cake.

Canada’s first woman ambassador, Margaret Mea-gher, described her successful career as an “accident of war.” On Oct. 22, 1958, the former junior high school teacher made history when she was named the am-bassador to Israel. As heard in this clip, Meagher talks about joining the Department of External Affairs in 1942, when it opened its doors to women during the Second World War. Despite being one of the few fe-males in the male-dominated world, Meagher quickly rose in rank, paving the way for other women in her field.
• Blanche Margaret Meagher was born in Halifax, N.S., on Jan. 27, 1911. • Meagher served as the Canadian ambassador to Is-rael (1958 to 1961), Austria (1962-66) and Sweden (1969-1973). She also served in Mexico and England. • Meagher was also high commissioner to Cyprus, Kenya and Uganda, and chaired the International Atomic Energy Agency. • She was a trustee for the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design from 1984-89. • Meagher was awarded the Order of Canada in 1974 “for her career in diplomacy and her contribution to international affairs.” • Meagher died on Feb. 25, 1999.

He immediately dials 9-1-1.The fireman answers, “Yes may I help you?”
The Antartican replies, “My house is on fire, come quick!!!”
The fireman asks, “How do we get there?”
The Antartican says, “Duh, big red truck!”
