Assessments

All students enrolled in Civics (or an equivalent course) are required to take the Civics End-of-Course (EOC) Assessment. This assessment is designed to measure a student's level of success with the content of the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) in Civics. A passing score has not yet been established for this assessment; however, the results may be used in the calculation of your student's Civics course grade. You may visit the Florida Department of Education website at www.fldoe.org for more information.

Content Area Scores- The table below gives more specific information about your student 's performance in the content areas tested by the Civics EOC Assessment. The Points Earned column provides the number of points earned in each content area, and the Points Possible column provides the total number of points that can be earned in each content area. The State Mean column allows you to compare your student 's performance with the performance of students across the state. Information about the skills included in these content areas is provided at the bottom of this page. Performance in these content areas is used to determine the scale score on the Civics EOC Assessment . Origins and Purposes of Law and Government­Identifies the origin , course , and development of the American legal and political traditions, the inherent conflicts involved in formulating those documents which would establish the nation, and how those concepts of the rule of Jaw, limited government, and checks and balances remained constant through the first centuries of American history.

Roles, Rights, and Responsibilities of Citizens­Understands and defines the concepts of citizen and citizenship with their corresponding obligations, rights , and responsibilities. Explains the role of the Constitution in safeguarding individual rights and limiting government power. Evaluates the impact of relevant constitutional amendments and the significance and outcomes of landmark Supreme Court decisions.

Government Policies and Political Processes­Identifies current political parties and formulates ideas regarding government. Examines the impact of interest groups. Evaluates political candidates. Analyzes the role of media in policy issues. Identifies appropriate government agencies for resolving policy debates. Comprehends and differentiates concepts related to U.S. domestic and foreign policy. Describes how the United States has dealt with international conflicts.

Organizations and Functions of Government­Compares the different forms and systems of government. Understands the role of the three branches of government. Recognizes the division of federal and state obligations and powers. Articulates the constitutional amendment process. Understands the judicial process.
