leadership service

Wandering through campus on your own? We hope this brochure can serve as your tour guide, though there’s no replacement for the real thing — contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 414.288.7302 or 800.222.6544 or the Graduate School at 414.288.7137 or 800.793.6450 to set up a tour. And you can learn even more at marquette.edu. In the meantime, here’s a taste of what Marquette can offer.

Midsized. World-renowned. Challenging. Innovative. Exciting. Metropolitan.

Engaging. Welcoming. There are a lot of ways to describe Marquette. But the four words

below — the heart of Marquette’s mission — might be the most important.

EXCELLENCE. Our students and faculty strive to do and be more. And it pays off: Our

students exceed the national average when it comes to career placement and getting into

graduate school, and our alumni go on to become Fortune 500 leaders, Pulitzer Prize winners,

inventors, community leaders and more.

FAITH. We’re a Catholic, Jesuit university, but we welcome and attract people of all faiths.

We offer a number of ways to explore and enrich your spirituality.

LEADERSHIP. Marquette students learn to challenge the status quo as ethical leaders.

They also get plenty of leadership practice on campus, and more than half of graduating

seniors report holding a leadership position in student groups.

SERVICE. At Marquette, we believe in becoming men and women for others, and our

students take that mission to heart. Although it’s not required, more than 85 percent of

students participate in service. It’s one reason why Washington Monthly listed Marquette

second nationally in its 2010 list of “25 Most Service-minded Schools”.

There’s no doubt that college is a

significant investment. However, more

than 90 percent of Marquette’s incoming

freshmen receive some sort of financial

aid, including scholarships, grants,

student employment and low-interest

loans. Marquette offers a wide variety

of merit scholarships that support the

university’s mission while recognizing

student achievement — excellence in

and out of the classroom, commitment

to community service, and

demonstrated leadership.

Undergraduate tuition and fees

for 2011-12

Tuition: $31,400

Fees: $422

Typical room and board: $10,370

GETTING IN. The process of becoming

a Marquette undergraduate student is

relatively painless, as long as you make

the Dec.1 application deadline. When

making an admission decision, we place

the greatest emphasis on your courses

and grades — we want to know that

you’ve challenged yourself and done well

in your course work. Everything else (test

scores, activities, recommendations) is

important but secondary. Here’s a look at

the Marquette Class of 2015:

50 percent female; 50 percent male

65 percent from out of state

Half ranked in the top 20 percent of

their high school class

Average ACT score is 27; average

SAT is 1210

For an urban university, we’re very residential — almost 95 percent of undergraduates live on campus. You’ll become a member of a vibrant community of learners who work hard … and who play hard, too. Here are just some of the ways you can keep busy:

n Try one of our 250-plus student organizations — more than most midsized universities.

n Play for one of our 30-plus club sports teams — more than any other Jesuit university.

n Catch a play at the Evan P. and Marion Helfaer Theatre or the latest exhibit at the Patrick and Beatrice Haggerty Museum of Art.

n Check out Tuesday’s 10 p.m. Mass, when St. Joan of Arc Chapel is packed with a standing-room-only crowd.

n Cheer on the Golden Eagles with the rest of the Marquette Fanatics (don’t forget the blue and gold paint).

n Go bowling, sing karaoke or catch a game at the Annex.

ATHLETICS

Ready to bleed blue and gold? Marquette athletics teams

compete in the Big East Conference, and the university offers

partial to full scholarships in all varsity sports. For those who

want to play just for fun, we offer more club sports teams

than any other Jesuit university.
