AMC Highland Happenings: Coastline, Culture, and Cuisine: Kayaking and Exploring the Gulf of St. Lawrence with Photographer Genny Langworthy is the 7:30pm program at AMC Highland Center. Little Shop of Horrors Auditions: M&D at Eastern Slope Inn Playhouse will be holding auditions for “Little Shop of Horrors” by Howard Ashman and Alan Menkin, as directed by Eric Jordan, at 7pm. There are nine roles available (three female and six male) and ensemble. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and a singing audition. This musical requires singing ability on several levels, so actors should prepare a singing audition that they feel demonstrates their musical theatre style singing abilities. Please bring a karaoke/accompaniment track of your song with you on a flash drive. Performance dates for “Little Shop of Horrors” are Thursday through Sunday, August 15 through September 1. Housing Issues Discussion: Join us for an information and discussion session on housing issues in the Valley, recognizing the need for increased housing diversity in the Valley. Dr. Marianne Jackson will explain about the new HomeShare program offered by the Gibson Center; George Reagan of NH Housing Finance and Victoria Laracy of MWV Housing Coalition will discuss design ideas for Accessory Dwelling Units, including ways you might re-design your home to create a small apartment. This program is open to all Valley citizens seeking ways to improve housing opportunities. Yellow Lady’s Slipper Field Trip: Yellow lady’s slippers, a white cedar swamp, and Alces alces are excellent reasons to explore the North Country with naturalist, Peter Benson. We will explore The Nature Conservancy’s Hurlbert Swamp in Stewartstown, NH, a 313 Acre northern white cedar swamp. Bring binoculars, boots, sturdy shoes, and a hearty lunch. Bird Society Program: Tin Mountain Bird Society will be on the lookout for Prairie Warblers, Eastern Towhees, Field and Vesper Sparrows along with other edge and openland species. Shred Your Ed: Students in the area can come shred their schoolwork for the end of school, while they sign up for Summer Reading and receive their first prize between 3-6pm in the Ham Room of the Conway Public Library.

Vaughan Community Services 7th annual Strawberry Festival will be held June 29th from 11am -4 pm at the First Church of Christ, Congressional located in downtown North Conway. This event is a major Fundraiser for all of Vaughan’s programs, which include the Vaughan Learning Center, The Food Pantry, Resource and referral and more.

Join in the fun as there is something for everyone; Strawberry smoothies, Strawberry shortcake, chocolate dipped strawberries, kid’s games, face painting, and live music. MWV Choral Society Summer Singers: Like to sing? Make new friends! Mt. Washington Valley Choral Society is recruiting new singers for a summer concert series. The Mt. Washington Valley Choral Society is pleased to announce a new summer concert series aimed at singers of all levels (no audition required)! Three concerts will feature lighter musical fare comprised of folk, patriotic, and musical theatre selections. Stewardship Day—Invasive Plant Removal: Do you wake from nightmares about bittersweet, buckthorn, barberry, knotweed, and other invasive plants trying to take over your property? Knowledge, and fellowship, is power! This morning, from 9-11:30am, join the Chocorua Lake Conservancy for a morning of camaraderie, exercise, and invasive plant control at the Brown Lot across from Chocorua Lake. Our volunteer stewards will be learning to identify some common invasive plants and how to remove and control those that might otherwise out-compete native shrubs. Bring work gloves, and your favorite clippers if you have them, water and a

snack. We will have some tools available if needed. Meet at The Island public access area on the lake at 9am. Questions; call 323-6252.

This event is part of the Drake’s Corner Street Fair featuring vendors, food, family games, crafts, and open houses at several historic buildings. GMCG will be present at the Effingham Street Fair throughout the day with an educational booth, display, and free information on water quality. Come join us for a fun day in historical Effingham!

Mountain-Laurel Walk: Join the staff of Tin Mountain as we wander through the most northerly and perhaps the largest mountain-laurel population in NH. Trekking through Time: From June through October, Lakes Environmental Association (LEA), Loon Echo Land Trust (LELT), Greater Lovell Land Trust (GLLT), Upper Saco Valley Land Trust (USVLT), and Western Foothills Land Trust (WFLT) will host the Trekking through Time Series. Once a month throughout the summer and early fall, each organization will lead a historical tour of one of their conservation properties. In collaboration with local historical societies, this series provides an opportunity for the public to learn more about the rich history of western Maine and the Mount Washington Valley, as well as the organizations protecting the land that hold these stories. Today, from 9am-12noon, LEA and the Bridgton Historical Society will bring Bridgton’s manufacturing past to life as we follow the Stevens Brook Trail and view the remnants of former mill sites. This event is open to the public and strongly encouraged for lake-front homeowners and members of local NH lake associations. This symposium is dedicated to educating the public on Best Management Practices or BMPs for improving water quality and reducing nutrient loading of phosphorus and nitrogen that contribute to harmful cyanobacteria

blooms in the hot summer months.

Timeless is Relative: Join the Chocorua Lake Conservancy at the Cook Memorial Library at 7pm for “Timeless is Relative: The Glaciated Landscape of the Chocorua Basin,” with geologist Rick Allmendinger. In this talk, Professor Allmendinger will use the LiDAR to offer a plausible interpretation of the sequence of events that occurred within the basin during the deglaciation of the region between 14,500 and 14,000 years ago, including the location and extent of the precursors to the current Big and Little Lake Chocorua. The story he will describe, a splendid example of natural climate change, unfolded as humans were discovering the New World for the first time. To complement this record of natural global climate change, the talk will conclude with a few brief remarks about what climate models portend for the next 80 years.

50th anniversary of the Moon Landing: Fryeburg Public Library will be celebrating the incredible 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing a little early. compulsively and so can you. No dues or fees for membership. We meet weekly, Saturdays from 9-11:30am at Memorial Hospital’s Bigelow Building (old hospital), 2nd floor conference room.

Christ Episcopal Thrift Shop at Pine Street, North Conway is open today from 10am-12:30pm. New spring & summer clothing. Also jewelry, books, art, small household items and countertop appliances. Last Wednesday of the month - $5-a-bag sale on almost everything in the shop. NO TV’s, large appliances or mattresses.
