• Just like in the national debate, in Pennsylvania it basically comes down to this: Democrats say gun laws need to be revisited...Republicans say it’s not the guns, but rather mental illness that needs to be addressed. In ongoing hearings held by the state House Judiciary Committee, the echo chamber continued for each side. Meanwhile, the tracking website gunviolencearchive.org reported more than 60 “mass shootings” in 2018 - defined as inci-dents with 4 or more people injured and/or killed...
•. The bill would create an offense for domestic violence in front of children. The bill’s prime sponsor Senator Bob Mensch says while children may not be the targeted victims of abusers, they are victimized by witnessing domestic violence. The legislation would apply to situations in which a person commits a personal injury crime knowing it was witnessed through sight or sound by some 18 years old or younger.

Dog Wardens to Conduct License, Rabies Compliance Checks in Armstrong County
Our dog Spartan is a 10 years young Staffordshire terrier. He is the proud pup of James Hiler and Amber War-ren. He is a “brother” to our 2 chil-dren. Our son, Brennan who is 6 and our daughter, Jaiden who is 2. Spartan loves to play with any kind of ball and any kind of squeaky toy. He acts like a 10 lb. lap dog who weighs about 50 lbs. We wouldn’t know what to do without him. We love you Spartan!
Dog wardens will canvass homes in Armstrong County, the week of April
23 to ensure all dog owners have current licenses and rabies vaccinations for their dogs.
It’s the Law – All dogs three months or older must be licensed by January 1 of each year. The fee is $6.50 for each spayed or neutered dog and $8.50 for unaltered dogs. Adults age 65+ and persons with dis-abilities may purchase a license for $4.50 for spayed or neutered dogs and $6.50 for unaltered.
Additionally, all dogs and non-feral cats (three months of age and older) must be vaccinated against rabies. Booster vacci-nations must be administered periodically to maintain lifelong immunity.
Violators can be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation plus court costs.

This week has been designated
as Volunteer Recog-nition Week in Arm-strong County.
Commissioners is-sued a proclamation earlier this month establishing April 15-21, 2018 as a time to celebrate those who work among us for no pay for the com-mon good.
National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 as an annual celebration of vol-unteerism, a time to recognize the efforts of all volunteers.
“It is fitting to honor the many individuals and organizations who lend their time, skill, and efforts to make our communities a better place,” the Proclamation reads in part. “Volunteers continue to inspire through their selfless contributions and encourage others to become volunteers.”
Volunteers are needed in every organization. Whatever your pas-sion, you will find a group that is in need to assistance, whether it be one hour, one day, or regular monthly events.
To safeguard children, some opportunities require its volunteers to obtain state clearances and even fingerprinting. This includes anyone that has direct contact with children, such as Sunday School teachers, scouting leaders, and other service organizations. Costs are minimal.
“On behalf of the citizens of Armstrong County, we commend all the volunteers for their devoted and honorable service to our County,” the Proclaimation states. Take a moment to thank the volunteer that you come in contact with today!
