Editor’s Note I felt a wave of panic when the Government

announced new legislation starting 14 September, limiting the number of people we can meet with socially to six. Although I’d taken full advantage of the relaxed rules with regards to meeting up with family, in many other ways I’d remained socially distanced, often choosing to stay at home rather than face queues in shops or wear a face mask in public. Other than going to work, I’d been something of a home bird.

But faced with the prospect of tighter social distancing measures, and the potential for the limited freedom we have to be reduced again, I felt this sudden need to take full advantage of all the opportunities that have been offered us since lockdown started to ease at the end of May.

First on the agenda was to book a table at a restaurant. My husband and I hadn’t eaten out since Valentine’s Day. I was pleasantly surprised at how normal it all seemed! Apart from having to sanitise our hands on entry, having our temperatures taken and the waiters wearing face masks, everything else seemed normal. It was very reassuring, and made me realise that just maybe there is life to be lived during Covid, outside the walls of my own home!

If I don’t make the most of life now I will truly regret it if we are forced into lockdown again during the winter months. So, in the words of the Roman poet Horace, I urge you to carpe diem. Seize the day!
