YOUR FAITH DETERMINES WHAT

YOU RECEIVE

Mark 5:21-43

Page 2: Your faith determines what you receive

THE POINTTHERE IS A QUESTION THAT MUST HAVE COME TO EACH ONE OF US. IF GOD IS SO POWERFUL WHY DOES HE SIMPLY NOT SAVE EVERY ONE? IF HE IS SO LOVING AND REALLY WANTS EVERY ONE TO BE SAVED, WHY DON’T HE JUST USE HIS MIGHTY POWER TO COMPEL EVERYONE TO BOW BEFORE HIM AND ACKNOWLEDGE HIM AS GOD. GOD IS OMNIPRESENT AND OMNIPOTENT AND OMNISCIENT BUT YET HE STILL WANT US TO TELL HIM ABOUT OUR PROBLEMS THAT HE IS SUPPOSED TO KNOW. THOUGH HIS IS EVERYWHERE NOT EVERY ONE FEELS HIS PRESENCE AND NOT EVERYONE EXPERIENCE THE TOUCH OF HIS POWER. THE UNIVERSE FUNCTIONS WITH PRINCIPLES AND UNTIL THOSE PRINCIPLES ARE MET, WE WILL NOT SEE THE MANIFESTATIONS OF GOD. THOUGH HE IS OMNIPRESENT, HE SAYS THAT WE NEED TO BE TWO OR THREE FOR HIM TO BE THERE , HE SAYS WE NEED TO CALL UPON HIM, HE SAYS WE NEED TO SEEK HIM THOUGH HE IS NEAR US. THOUGH HE IS OMNISCIENT, HE WANTS US TO SPEAK TO HIM IN PRAYER FOR HIM TO MEET ALL OUR NEEDS. THOUGH HE HAS ALL THE POWER TO HEAL AND SAVE US, HE WANTS US TO BELIEVE IN HIM FOR HIS POWER TO EFFECT IN US. TODAY WE WANT TO SEE HOW OUR FAITH WILL DETERMINE WHAT WE WILL RECEIVE.

THE POINT21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet 23 and pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live." 24 So Jesus went with him. 25 A large crowd followed and pressed around him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed." 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

THE POINT30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?" 31 "You see the people crowding against you," his disciples answered, "and yet you can ask, 'Who touched me?' " 32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."

THE POINT35 While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. "Your daughter is dead," they said. "Why bother the teacher any more?" 36 Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, "Don't be afraid; just believe." 37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly.

THE POINT39 He went in and said to them, "Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep." 40 But they laughed at him. 41 After he put them all out, he took the child's father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which means, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!" ). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and walked around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

GOD IS OMNIPRESENT AND HIS POWER IS ALWAYS WITH HIM BUT ONLY OUR FAITH WILL PULL THAT

Page 14: Your faith determines what you receive

NO FAITH NO RECEPTION

JESUS WAS FULL OF POWER BUT THE PEOPLE OF NAZARETH HAD NO FAITH IN

HIM AND THEREFORE HE COULD NO EFFECT HIS MIRACLES IN THEIR MIDST

Mark 6:5-6

“He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he

was amazed at their lack of faith.”

Page 15: Your faith determines what you receive

NO FAITH NO RECEPTION

THEY COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT HE COULD PERFORM MIRACLES IN THEIR LIVES AND

THEREFORE THEY DID NOT HAVE FAITH TO PLUG INTO THE POWER THAT WAS AVAILABLE

Mark 6:5-6

“He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he

was amazed at their lack of faith.”

Page 16: Your faith determines what you receive

THE LACK OF FAITH

THEIR LACK OF FAITH MADE GOD UNABLE TO PERFORM AS MANY MIRACLES THAT HE WANTED TO

PERFORM IN THEIR MIDST.

JESUS WAS SHOCKED AND IN PAIN. HE COULD NOT MANIFEST HIS POWER AND REVEAL HIS GLORY.

Hebrews 11:6“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because

anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

THE OBLIGATION OF FAITHMatthew 9:27-31

27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" 28 When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" "Yes, Lord," they replied. 29 Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith will it be done to you"; 30 and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, "See that no one knows about this." 31 But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.

THE NEED OF FAITH

PEOPLE CAN FOLLOW JESUS WITHOUT FAITH.

JESUS DID NOT TAKE FOR GRANTED THAT THEY HAVE FOLLOWED HIM FOR SOME DISTANCE> THEY NEEDED

TO ADMIT WHAT THEY BELIEVED ABOUT JESUS

Matthew 9:27-3127 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" 28 When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" "Yes, Lord," they replied.

THE IMPERATIVE NEED OF FAITH

WITHOUT FAITH EVEN THE MESSAGE OF GOD IS OF NO VALUE

Hebrews 4:2“For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.”

THE WORD MUST BE RECEIVED WITH FAITH

I THESSALONIANS 2:13“And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.”
