DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAMAre you at risk for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes? 1 out of 3 American adults has prediabetes. If you have prediabetes or are at risk, you can make changes now to improve your health and prevent type 2 diabetes.

The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) can help you lose weight, become more physically active, and reduce stress. With the program, you get:

• A proven program to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes

• A CDC-approved curriculum and trained lifestyle coach

• Support from others like you as you learn new skills

STUDENTS WITH DIABETES: JMU CHAPTER“Students with Diabetes” is a national organization that strives to establish connections and support for students with diabetes. JMU’s local chapter has come together to support fellow students and reach out to the local community. Have you been diagnosed with diabetes? Or have you had diabetes for awhile and still have questions? The right education and support makes self-care of your diabetes more manageable and helps you navigate your plan of care for staying healthy.

Group Sessions: Meet with a diabetes educator or dietitian in a group setting. You’ll receive comprehensive education, focusing on seven self-care behaviors essential for improved health: healthy eating, being active, monitoring medications, problem solving, healthy coping, and reducing risks.

Individual Sessions: Meet one-on-one with a diabetes educator or dietitian to review personal concerns of your care. All insulin teaching is done in an individual session.
