Over the past week, staff have been preparing curriculum content for next term whilst developing ways this will be delivered. For Term 2, the directive from the Government and the Education Department is that parents are encouraged to keep their children at home. There is provision for those families who need to send their children to school because it is necessary to maintain employment or are regarded as essential workers. Students who need to attend school next term (according to the guidelines outlined above) will be using the learning at home modules/package in the same way that all other children who are learning at home will complete the same modules. Firstly, we’d like to begin by acknowledging the dedication our team at Boyanup Primary School has shown in these extraordinary and challenging times. Although many of our students have not been onsite since Week 8, learning programs have continued for those students remaining and work packages have been provided to cater for those students who have been learning from home. We would also like to acknowledge the difficult decisions you as parents and carers have had to make as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. You have all been on your own journey these past few weeks and we appreciate the way you have worked in partnership with our school. This support has ensured that we have been able to put suitable social distancing and hygiene practices into place and this has supported us to plan for the next step. Things have been changing in education at a rapid pace and we have endeavoured to keep you as up to date as possible. While there remains some uncertainty regarding what Term 2 may look like for schools over the long term, what is certain is that schools will commence the term through a Learning at Home model, where our students will have their learning supported by their parents/carers via online and/or paper based resources. Over the past week, staff have been preparing curriculum content for next term whilst developing ways this will be delivered. While we are still bound by the directives of our government, we want our families to be aware that we have a plan in place should we need to continue with distance education throughout Term 2. We hope that the following information provides you with some clarification about how this will look.

Ongoing Communication - All communication will now be through electronic media.

What will Learning at Home look like?

Learning at Home will start if the government gives a directive to do so. This will be ready for the start

of Term 2, Wednesday 29th April.

Timetables for each class will be provided via the Seesaw App each week.

Supporting work packs will be made available to all families. The first work pack will be ready for

collection Tuesday 28th April. More details about work pack collection will be provided early Term 2.

The logistics of this will be dependent on the government social distance requirements at the time.

Each week, parents will be provided with sufficient work for five days for Pre Primary - Year 6 students,

and two days each week for Kindergarten students.

Timetables will include suggested daily time allocations. Parents can modify the programs to meet the

needs of their individual children.

Teachers will clearly indicate activities which are;

o Can do (Orange) Additional activities that can be completed if possible

o Assessment (Green) Three pieces of work for students to submit each week via seesaw.

Teachers will provide encouraging comments and feedback for these pieces.

Teachers will inform parents of a communication window (two hours per day) where they will respond

to questions and queries they receive. This will occur via Seesaw or email.

Suggested Daily Time Allocation for Parents/Students

Kindy - 60 minutes throughout the day

Pre-Primary - Year 2 - 90 minutes throughout the day

Year 3 & 4 - 2 hours throughout the day

Year 5 & 6 - 2½ hours throughout the day

The timetable your child’s teacher provides you with should be used as a guide. We suggest you take regular breaks throughout the learning sessions. You should time the learning sessions around home routines. For some families a morning learning time will suit. For others the afternoons will be better. Achieving Success at Home

Throughout the week, parents should feel free to mark, comment and give feedback on their child’s schoolwork as it is completed. Teachers value the participation of parents. Communication is a two-way process and we encourage parents to remain in regular contact with teachers. In the coming week, a series of 10 modules will be uploaded to the school website. Each module will provide information and strategies to support families with learning at home. We strongly encourage you to read these modules, and complete the activities where possible, to help create the best learning environment for your children at home. Children with Additional Needs

Children with learning difficulties or special needs may need a modified learning program developed for them. Your classroom teacher is your first port of call and they will work with your child’s Special Needs Assistant to best support your child. Your child’s education assistant from school will prove to be a wealth of knowledge in this area. Online Subscription to Support Learning at Home

All students from Kindy to Year 6 will have access to the following subscriptions.

Cyber safety

Now is the time to be extra vigilant when your child/ren are using devices online. Children will innocently engage with popups, messages and anything that looks interesting on the screen. To keep your child/ren safe when using devices;

Establish strict rules and stick to them,

Educate about Cyber safety;

o Never post or trade personal pictures,

o Never reveal personal information, such as address, phone number, or school name or location,

o Use only a screen name and don't share passwords (other than with parents),

o Never agree to get together in person with anyone met online without parent approval and/or

supervision,

o Never respond to a threatening email, message, post, or text,

o Always tell a parent or other trusted adult about any communication or conversation that was scary

or hurtful.

Spend time online together to teach your kids appropriate online behaviour,

Keep the computer in a common area where you can watch and monitor its use, not in individual

bedrooms. Monitor any time spent on smartphones or tablets,

Bookmark kids' favourite sites for easy access,

Check your credit card and phone bills for unfamiliar account charges,

Take your child seriously if he or she reports an uncomfortable online exchange.

As you are aware, the COVID - 19 pandemic directives are ever changing and unpredictable. As a school, we continue to act upon the regular updates and advice provided by the Federal and State Governments, and the Education and Health Departments. I will continue to keep you informed as things progress over the next few weeks. School Chaplain and Psychologist

Both the School Chaplain, Lois, and School Psychologist, Iona, will continue to work with the school

supporting our students. If you would like support from either or both, please the school.

Once again, thank you for your ongoing support during this extraordinary time. I hope you and your families are both healthy and well. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher to ask for clarity or help. We are all on this new learning journey together.

Mr J. Grasso Principal

Last day of Term 1 is this Thursday, 9th April. We wish you all a safe and relaxing holiday, and look forward to the new challenge of Learning from Home in Term 2. As there is a School Development Day for staff on Tuesday 28th April, learning from Home will commence on Wednesday 29th April.

Positive Behaviour Support and You Can Do It!

On Thursday, 26th March we held our first whole school reward day for 2020. Students came to school dressed in free dress and added splashes of purple to their outfits to raise awareness for epilepsy. Students were also treated to an extra-long lunch time to celebrate their amazing efforts this term. Although our numbers were small, we still managed to raise $70 for Epilepsy Action Australia.

Awesome effort Boyanup Primary School!

Mrs Brimson is loving her new carpet. It looks awesome!

Can you spot her new ‘Vibrant Spinner’ filled with books? What a great addition to our library!

The Performing Arts Room has undergone some exterior maintenance work and painting.
