Yateley Manor Award Silver: Sam Rowe Bronze: Matty Knowles Congratulations to Alex Padbury, Matthew Daines, Mia Ingram and Katie Hancock who have all been selected for the South of England basketball squads. The four attended trials in Winchester and were amongst the top ten girls and top ten boys chosen. Both the squads have several training weekends and tournaments before playing in the National Regional Finals in Sheffield in June. As well as training at school all four pupils also play for the Yateley Silverbacks U12s. No other club or school had more than two players selected for the squads so to have four is a great achievement for the children, the school and the Silverbacks and we are very proud of their success. Matthew is only currently allowed to train with the squad and not play in the Nationals as, being U9, he is too young! Good luck to all four in the National Finals in Sheffield. FYMS May Fair The FYMS May Fair is now just two weeks away and excitement is mounting. The May Fair Committee have been working really hard and have planned a fantastic family day for us all with plenty for everyone.

As well as being a fantastic event, the May Fair is also FYMS’ biggest fundraiser and allows them to provide extra resources or activities around the school; the icing on the cake they call it! This year FYMS have donated the super new outdoor classroom in the Woodland Learning Area and are now raising funds for a fabulous new climbing wall.

Those who prefer to be pampered should not miss the face and nail painting, hair braiding, tattoos and hair dye.

Children will also be excited to know that Mr Upton has offered to be wet sponged again. Come early - the queue for this grows quickly!

The fantastically greenfingered parents who run the plant stall are again offering to fill your hanging baskets. Bring along your empty baskets, select your plants and then collect the finished baskets before you leave. You can also buy pre-filled baskets on the day.

Children in Nursery to Year 2 are asked to donate a new toy or puzzle that can go into the children’s tombola. Please could children in Year 3 donate toiletries and those in Years 4, 5, 7 and 8 donate a bottle for the adult tombola. FYMS members will be at the door on the day to collect these gifts.

Please note that children should be dressed appropriately for school: Girls’ tops should be full length and all skirts, shorts and trousers must be of a sensible length. Footwear should also be sensible. Please no team tops, no jewellery (for health and safety reasons) and no hair colouring, make up or face paint.

Vanessa Norton-Edwards, Head of English, will be holding a Year 6 English for Year 5 Parents meeting on Tuesday 6th June

The meeting aims to explain the standard of English expected from children at 11+. It also covers how teachers support children in preparation for exams and how parents can help. In the past this meeting has proved to be highly valued by parents.

The meeting will start at 4.45pm and will be held in Johnson and Bronte. If you would like to attend this meeting please email Penny Charles or let Reception know. Thank you.

Robert Upton’s latest blog can be found on the School website. The following is a taster:

Teaching is an art form, it is not a delivery system. It is about intuition and judgement. We all remember the teachers who made a difference to our learning and ultimately, perhaps, to our lives. They are the ones who said something that really made us sit up and think, or they encouraged us to try a new opportunity and gave us confidence. Being a great teacher is not just about “knowing your stuff” but also knowing how to get children interested in it.

FYMS - May Fair How you can help

Music at the May FairSeveral of our music ensembles will be performing as part of the FYMS May Fair festivities on Saturday 20th May. Children involved will be given a letter with timings (which are also listed below) during the next week. Alternatively the letter can be downloaded here. Parents should complete the form and return to School Reception by Friday 12th May. Children are asked to meet in the Music School at their designated rehearsal time for a warm up. All performances will take place outside the Music Block. Children may, of course, wear their own clothes for these performances. Pre-Prep Choir Rehearsal at 12.00pm Performance at 12.30pm Junior Manor Singers Rehearsal at 12.50pm Performance at 1.15pm Wind Band Rehearsal at 1.15pm Performance at 1.45pm Senior Manor Singers Rehearsal at 2.00pm Performance at 2.30pm Manor Rocks Rehearsal at 3:00pm Performance at 3.30pm

The music ensemble performances always draw large crowds at the May Fair and are a lovely part of the afternoon. We hope as many members of these groups as possible are able to come along.

May Fair Update - It is now only two weeks until the May Fair on 20th May and plans are well under way:

Volunteers: Please join in the fun and help us man one of the stalls on the day. We are reliant on volunteers to make this day run smoothly and all help is much appreciated. You can help for just one hour or more if possible. Please email [email protected] or drop a note in the FYMS post box in School Reception if you can help.

Hanging Baskets and Plant Stall: One of the most popular stalls, the plant ‘shop’ needs green fingered help. If you can donate pots, plants or hanging baskets, please drop them off at the bike shed by the Pre-Prep entrance. If you are planning to bring your hanging baskets along to be filled on the day please email Jo Smithson so that she can plan for this usually very popular stall.

Sports Equipment Recycling Stall: If you have any sports equipment you could donate to the recycling stall plesase bring it in to school on Friday 19th May or alternatively just bring it along to the May Fair. Thank you.

Anyone for Cake? Did you know, we sell over 200 pieces of cake at the May Fair. We can’t do this though without the volunteers to make them. If you are able to bake a cake for the May Fair please contact [email protected].

Token pre-order: You can pre-order your tokens for the May Fair by completing the form and leaving it in School Reception. Pre-ordered tokens will be available for collection at the entrance to the Fair. Download the order form here.

The FYMS Mufti Day in aid of the May Fair will be held on Friday 12th May. Please see the separate article on page 2 of INAMOS.

This Week’s MatchesIt was hardly a summer’s afternoon on Wednesday but at least this week we were able to complete the all our matches without any rain!

Both the girls and boys played against Twyford. The girls shared the honours with both schools winning two matches, losing two and drawing one.

As it was internal exam week the senior and U11 boys played shortened matches at home while the U9 boys played full length fixtures away.

Match reports on all of Wednesday’s games can be found here.

The Pre-Prep and Prep teams’ chess matches against St Catherine’s School which were scheduled for next Friday, 12th May have been moved to the following week, Friday 19th May.

Our U11A and U9A teams will instead be playing against The Abbey at home next Friday.

The house chess matches which had originally be scheduled for the 19th May will now be played later in the term.

We apologise for any inconvenience arising from these changes.

Music Recording DayThe Music Department is very excited to be recording our own Yateley Manor music CD on Friday 16th June.

A professional mobile recording studio will be visiting us and all music ensembles that have run through the whole year (rather than just for one term) will be recording one or two pieces. The whole CD, including the art on the CD cover, will be exclusively our pupils’ work.

CDs are strictly limited edition and you will not be able to buy them in shops or on-line. They will be distributed only through the school on a ‘first come first served basis’ As well as a great memento for the children we are sure that parents will enjoy the music too and they will also make great presents for family members.

Children involved will be given a letter with details about ordering CDs during their ensembles and this can also be downloaded here. Orders must be received no later than 19th June 2017.

Madeleine Perryman (5TLM) has lost her named swimming kit which is in a named red swimming bag. If you have seen it please let Madeleine or Mr Daines know. Thank you.
